First off, I have to say I am no computer expert. If someone else knows something feel free to chime in. I wasted ALOT of time getting rid of this FAKE program that attempts to extort money by taking over your computer! It looks like a legit anti Spy-ware program but is a virus! It shuts down any attempt to delete it. It says that your computer is infected and action needs to be taken. No matter what you do, it directs you to buy "Spy Protection 2010". I found this info and followed the directions and all seems fixed. I hope this saves you time and money. http://www.seasonsecurity.com/a/how-do-i-remove-sp yware-protection-2010-139053.html (The answer is near the bottom of the page) |

While this does belong on the quickboard, I am glad you got it all sorted out. These fake antivirus/spyware programs are a nusanse, and they hold your computer hostage to try and get you to buy their junk. Do yourself a favor, go to your User Accounts in the control panel, and make your main account a standard/limited user. This will prevent your account from having the ability to install programs and run them as an administrator. Doing this alone will eliminate 86% of all security issues on your computer. |

Union Man, I just got done paying a shop in town 80 bucks to clean out my hard drive and reload XP because of one of those type of viruses. That really sucks because now I can spend a whole night reloading all of my programs etc. The good news is, I had all of the documents for me, my wife and two daughters backed up on my external hard drive shortly before this happened. But, as much as I hate computers, I guess we wouldn't have BadWeb if it were not for computers. I'm glad to see you got yours fixed for free. I really appreciate knowing that there are other people out there that have trouble with these things, not just me! OK, I'm done now. |
