3 tps resets later I think it is finally running right. Find out when I leave work tonight.

Another plus with either the new flash or the E-B-R ECM is that when the fan does run after shutoff it is at a reduced speed and less duration. (or so it seems to me) Not so whiney!

I asked E-B-R if they could do something with the fan logic if I were to order one of their ECMs for my 06. They said, "icksnay" - we won't change any fan settings on your ECM
If I could just get it to do it low speed vs. the high speed, that would be nice. The other annoying part is, when I pull up to the garage after a short ride, just idling, I can hear the fan is NOT running. Then I shut if off and the fan kicks in! Makes no sense. I must be right on the threshold of not hot enough to run the fan while bike is on, but hot enough when the bike is off. Grrrrr

I love the sound of fan at the shutdown, it's the sound of victory.

Uly Dude, If I'm not mistaken, I think the stock fan program turns the fan on immediately after the key is shut off, no matter what the engine temp is. At least that's how it was on my 08 XT before I installed the new ECM. The fan would start on high speed and then drop down to low after a couple seconds. I really got sick of that noise. I would always park my bike way down at the end of the group so we would not have to listen to that whine.

Now I am trying to get used to the sound of the fan turning on while riding 15 mph or above. I really wish it only would turn on when the rear cylinder reaches a certain temp.

That threshold is something like 100 degrees. I'd have to check though.

Not true.

It does, you reached it.

OK Froggy, I see what you are saying. But, under any normal riding conditions, which usually is a minimum of 20 minutes, the stock 08 program will turn the fan off when the key is switched off. So in my case, every time I shut the bike off. It only takes about 20 seconds of idling to reach 100 degrees at the rear cylinder, just guessing though.

When I wrote the line about wishing it would only turn the fan on when a certain temp was reached, I really meant a high temp, as in slightly before overheating. I am not always the best at communicating my thoughts on-line so I hope this makes my post a little more clear. Thanks!

The fan does not kick on at 100 degrees, it is MUCH higher than that. I don't have the actual numbers in front of me, and it does vary a bit depending on what calibration is on your bike. What I meant before was there was a good size gap between Key on fan on temp and Key off fan on temp, hence why if you are sitting idling it wont always be on, then when you switch the bike off you are now above the Key off fan on threshold so it runs it.

With your bike, if you started it, rode a mile and then shut it off, the fan ins't likely to run as it wouldn't have reached any of the fan on thresholds.

You don't want the fan to kick on right before overheating, that is just asking for trouble.

Thanks Froggy. I learn more about this bike every day. Love this forum, you guys are great!

My biggest concern right now is wondering how long the fan will last since it is running a whole lot more with the new ECM than it did with the stock. Then again, maybe the fan will last longer because it is kept cooler, due to the fact that it is rarely off while riding.

I agree with you Al. It seems like they fixed some of the fan logic issues, but then made some worse. I mean this shouldn't be rocket science. But I have an 06 so I don't have to worry about the reflash. Someday I'm gonna buy me the ECM cable and find/change those fan values myself gol darn it.
