Do I have to remove the shroud to get the fan out? It looks like the shroud may have the shock reservoir trapped. My service manual is the '08 edition, so no mention of the shroud there. Mark SE AZ |

I'm 99% sure you have to (notice I gave myself a 1% out). If I could think of a way to do it without removing the shroud, I'd hesitate to take you down that road out of fear it would complicate things for you. Then again, I've never had the Uly jacked up high enough that if one were to remove the rear shock and move the rear wheel down to gain access thaaaat waaaay......hmmmm (chin scratching) I replaced my fan before I added the comfort kit. I feel fairly certain I couldn't have left the shroud in place and replaced the fan. |

You can't get at the fasteners without removing the Comfort Kit shroud. It comes out a whole lot easier than it goes in... I found it easier to replace the fan if I removed the rear shock altogether. Just jack the bike up by the muffler to support it. (Message edited by rwven on December 23, 2010) |

Thanks for the confirmation. Clearly, I'd prefer to leave the shroud in, but I don't want to waste a bunch of time chasing down a rabbit hole. |
