Here comes the story of my friend (mine is an 06 and works near to perfect): his bike is a 2007 uly that since the first day he had many problems that during 2 years the dealer was doing all sort of changes twice the wiring harness, and a lot of other things, but now the problem is: 5th speed at 3k revs the engine makes kind of jumps, and when in traffic in 1st or 2nd gear playing with the clutch and accelerator under 2k revs he gets popping in the throttle body, so I'd kindly ask for your suggestions about what you think this could be, the bike has a race ecm, an hp exhaust, open air box and a catch can. I apreciete your ideas, and i'll post back with where we come to Thanks |

I subscribe to the "Lemon" theory of mechanics. That is to say that any machine, even a tried and true model can just be not right from day one, and should be gotten rid of. My current Uly and S3 are fine examples with no issues, but I have had bikes that were always broken or temperamental. Ditch it and replace. |

not easy if he is still paying it off, and with all the problems he still loves to ride it. but i'm sure there must be some way to solve this. |

Sounds like the mapping is off. Who did it after the ECM & exhaust work? |

a friend who has an X1 an he is way good on remapping with the ecm spy, just to add more info the voltage has some instantaneus peaks of 15.3 (tried another VR and same problem) and the BAS that now is turned off had instantaneus peaks of 4,5 volts. |

Coil? Plug wires? Plugs? Water in the tank? TPS? The popping, to me at least, still sounds like an air/fuel problem - but I have an 09 that's straight stock and I don't mess with it. |

Pontlee77. - The first thing is the STD ECU/ECM will adjust itself well enough for most cans and air filters. It will not, however, be able to adjust itself enough to get the best out of this setup. For that you will need a fueler or a good setup via Ecm-Spy and a lot of Dyno/road time. My bike runs near perfect but 3000 RPM in 5th is asking to much from it without slipping the clutch. The bike needs 2000 RPM in any gear for smooth riding at low speeds and you may still need to slip the clutch a little in traffic. I had all sorts of engine running problems with my bike, for 2 years, but nothing I could put a finger on and thought of selling it on. Sometimes it ran great and others it was a pain. In the end I found the problem to be the loom Earth point on the rear sub-frame. After filing the point back to metal I have had no problems at all since. The bike runs perfect now with little vibs as well. This fault is a well known, by HD, build problem with these bikes and easy to fix once you know about it. |
