My brother has a 2009 XB12X ulysses. He was changing the oil, didn't pay as close attention as he should have and applied too much torque to the torx bolts that hold the access plate. They are now stripped. What are the options? Any suggestions as to what you'd do to correct the issue? Thanks | ||

Helicoil is probably the best choice, next might be go the next size larger bolt and drilling/tapping to fit. Put some thick grease on your drill bit to hold the chips it may produce, don't want that stuff inside the cover. | ||

Are the holes blind like on the tubers XL motor? I didn't pay attention last time I had the cover off on the Uly. I've Helicoiled at least 4 bikes over the years, some all of the holes. If one is bad, they probably are all suspect. If one was over torqued, they probably all were. It takes less than 5 minutes to put one in. Well worth the time. Takes longer to get the tools out... | ||

These strip a lot. Helicoil is a good fix. Go ahead and heilcoil all 3, the fix is much better than to original threads. The holes do not go all the way through, so make sure you don't drill them all the way through when you're installing the heilcoils. I marked the drill bit using the screw as a depth gauge. | ||

Thanks for the info / help. Got the kit today from AutoZone as suggested and will install all three this weekend. |
