Was cleaning my uly the other day and I noticed a light socket in between my headlights, looks like it's for a 194 peanut bulb, why is there no bulb in it? and can a colored one be put in to make the light that is not on glow? is the socket even hooked up? |

You are probably one of the few that know about it and haven't |

There is probably a lot more I'll notice later. thanks again for the reply, I'm a noob and will be asking more noob questions in the future, so be forewarned! lol. |

I have a red light in mine...but honestly no one can even see it, especially with my HID lights on. |

Most (like me), use it to do the headlight mod. It keeps the low beam always on, and when you switch to high, both are on for better visibility |

That light is for Parking. If you put a bulb in it will light when you turn the ignition switch to the Park setting. Your rear light and that bulb will be on then. If you do the headlight mod that Whisperstealth mentioned, you essentially disable that light, but you get to have both Low and High beams on when High beam is selected. |

Will that wire safely carry enough power to power the bigger bulb? 194 bulbs are a lot smaller than an h7, I dont want to melt anything. |

Tons of folks have done the swap, don't think I've heard of anyone melting a wire yet. The park light is "overwired" - it has the same gauge as the headlight. |

The European's have a bulb in there, it's not required in USA. |

My 05 didn't have the bulb, but my 09 came with the bulb. Any other USers find a bulb in there? Did they start putting them in all bikes after a certain year? |

My 09 has a bulb there. Never noticed it until I lost my lo-beam a few months ago. |

Funny thing: My X1 had that parking light in the front and I used it all the time when I would park on the street for errands. I don't think the X1 were supposed to be equipped with a bulb either. People would freak out when they saw the headlight lit dimly. They thought the battery was dead or something. |

I and some others like to install the 7 color rotating led bulb in that socket. When parked at night and the switch in "park" position it's pretty cool. I call it "mood lighting".

And....when you do the headlight mod the low beam headlight is on in the park position so if you turn the key too far when locking the trees, pull the key out, and walk away you better be coming back soon. You notice at night but not during the day. That would be the voice of experience talking. |

My 09 has a bulb in it but the switch will only light it if the steering is in the locked position. The tail light also comes on with the switch in that position. |

I just noticed it is also on with the headlight on. I need to figure out how to have it on by itself without the steering being in the locked position. It's pretty cool looking. By the way,did Buell make a euro type light switch? |

My '09 has a bulb in there that is on when the bike is on and also when the key is in the park position with the tail light on. I think it's a pretty good idea to have that little light in the front, but I may to the low beam always on conversion at some point. |

The 09's came with a new headlamp assembly, hence it comes with the bulb preinstalled. |

Thanks for all the replies! I think I am going to do the colored bulb first and see how I like it, I try not to ride at night because I live in deer country, but when I do I put the dimmer switch in the middle to get both lights to come on. |

I know of no part number. I just found it on the shelf at the local auto parts store. It was a 2 bulb pak for cheap. |
