Ordered my Eric Buell Racing ECM today. From what I understand I need a TPS reset before installing the new ECM. What do I need to do, What do I need to have? |

You need to do it with the new ECM installed. Think of the TPS as a volume knob, that tells the computer how far you've cranked up the volume (throttle) so it knows what part of the map to feed the engine. It has to know where zero is, so it knows where to start from. If you want to do it yourself, you need ECMspy and a cable to connect to your bike. From there it's all mechanical...but I'm tired and it's late and I'm sure someone will chime in before your ECM shows up It's easy...but on your '06, you do need the cable and computer to do it. |

OK, sleep helps lol. Do all of this with a HOT BIKE. Do not do the reset with the bike cold, it MUST be at operating temperature. If your bike won't run well enough to get it hot with the new ECM, ride it with the stock ECM, get home, key off, swap ECM's (all you have to do is plug it in for this procedure, don't waste cooldown time bolting it in), and do this procedure. Left side of the bike, between the fork tube and the air scoop, just under the frame, is a knurled nut with a hex keyhole in the middle, that's your idle adjust screw. Screw it out all the way until the throttle *just* sticks when you twist it open. The plate will bind in the throttle body just a little bit when it's truly closed 100%. Once you get to that point, bump the throttle grip closed so you know its in there tight. Don't have to crank on it, just bump it shut like when you're riding and you close it with your hand instead of the throttle springs. Hook up the computer, get into ECMspy, connect to the bike (key on but don't start), and select "reset TPS". Also do the AFV reset at this time. The manual says to use the idle adjust screw to open the throttle until the reading is around 5.1v...but that's never worked on my bike. I start with a 5.1 reading, and start the bike, then I just pull it in or out until my idle is where it should be (it'll bounce from 1000 to 1100; 1050 is spec). Go for a ride. If the idle hangs up when you clutch it for decel, back out the adjuster just a hair until it stops hanging. That's it. |

Cowboycop, No, I got one for stock exhaust and K&N air filter with breather reroute. Just e-mail Erik Buell Racing with what you have to get the right ECM. |
