I'm sure many of you have watched this. I saw it the other night. "The Worlds Fastest Indian". The true story of Bert Munro setting records at Bonneville on his 1920's hybrid Indian. Good movie for those interested. |

I loved the part when Bert took a knife and was cutting his tires down making them slick. It is a very cool movie |

Wasn't Munro a member of the third most popular folk duo in NZ? Shoe polish on the shaved tires lent a new meaning to the term 'tire dressing'. |

I thought he cut the tires for clearance because of them getting taller at speed. |

Those of us who have worshiped at the alters of the gods of speed and those of us who are getting older have a special reverence for burt. |

We have a cabinet in the garage for the broken parts that sacrificed themselves for speed. It's full now, we need another cabinet!! I have seen that movie over ten times and never get tired of it! |

I had a chance to go to Bonneville last month and see the World Finals. Driving ALL that way (in my case from Salt Lake City) and then MILES out on the salt to watch them run really makes you appreciate the magnitude of what he did, coming from half-way around the world. BIG brass ones... |
