Sort of off topic, but is that a spark plug socket stuck in your 12V outlet? |

Does the left hand side hamper the use of the key? It looks like it would cover that portion of the headlight mount. |

Good question...I havent fitted the left side wing yet, I'll do it today around noon and get back to you on that. I do think a little bit of the "Ulysses XB12**" puffy sticker on the lower part of the mask may be obstructed. I was thinking if cutting the wing around it, but not sure there would be enough material left for the mounting hole to be drilled into the wing. I plan on mounting both wings and testing today...since it is pretty decent weather here at the moment. I'll report later this afternoon. |

Looks nice but does it allow full turning radius of fork? If it does then I think one full piece would be better and it needs to go lower. It probably also needs a bracket to the fork on each side to quell the vibration and wind flex. Arm chair quarterback here, sorry. |

Made sure it clears the fork radius. I like the one piece as well, but it requires much more work (hand laying fiberglass)and would be a lot more expensive than the 2 piece wings. I made a wing that extends down further, its practical...but looks kind of ugly because of the transition between the curved upper part that attaches to the mask. I could pretty much make anything, but I dont want to make the pieces so expensive that no one will want them. As it sits now..just the material for each individual wing is around $15 and takes around an hr to cut and shape. If anyone is interested in a custom one-off design, i can do that as well, but unfortunately it wouldnt be cheap |

Ok. so I went home at lunch, put the wings on and rode back to work. The one on the left is the one that seems to work best (slight difference in the angle of the bend between the two). Since I just got my bike a few weeks ago and have only had the opportunity to ride it a few hundred miles, I'm not really sure if there is a significant difference, although my right leg and hand were not as cold as my left. Who here has spent a significant amount of miles and time in the saddle? I would like to send a prototype set to someone to test, and provide me with feedback, I need a "test dummy" so to speak. Coming off a Super Duke....the Uly already has 1000% more wind protection, so my assessment of wind may be slightly skewed. All I ask in return is that the person gives me feedback on the wings through PM's and gives me a chance to improve the wings as necessary, also to verbally communicate how to make them better. I would also prefer it to be someone who has been a forum member for awhile, and has owned and ridden the crap out of their Uly. If interested shoot me a PM, do not post in the thread. Thanks, Johnny |

Thanks to all those who replied. I am gonna try one more design that incorporates some kind of lower wing (or possibly just separate lowers in combination with the upper wings). I was messing around last night and realized it is pretty difficult to make a one piece upper and lower wing with the air intake where it is. It can be done and work well..but I havent figured out a way to make it look good yet. I'm kinda picky like that. When I get a design figured out and made...I'll post up some pictures |

Johnny, Maybe to save yourself a whole lot of design effort you could create with cardboard just to get a good idea what it will look like. Once you are satisfied then you can go to the further expense of laying fiberglass. |

What I would ultimately like to do is make a fairing that curves around and completely covers the riders legs. I worked with some cardboard mock ups last night. Cardboard doesnt hold its shape to well when there are multiple curves. Also the two sides of the bike are not symmetrical, so it makes mounting the fairings a bit tricky. |

What we need is someone with connections in a plastics production plant. I have an idea for a nacelle that replaces the flyscreen, extending down to the beak, covering the stock lights area. It allows the installation of an FLHT headlight assembly and provides a large area where the lights used to be for e-stuff. It extends upward some too. This eliminates the windshield and could be made wider for more wind deflection, though I'm not interested in wider. I'm interested in the dresser headlight. |

To have a prototype made then have molds machined would run $20,000-30,000. Even if half of everyone who ever bought a Ulysses got one it would be really expensive. Thats the only issue I have with my Ulysses there just aren't enough out there for aftermarket companies to make parts for them other than parts that can be used on other kinds of bikes and as time goes on it will get worse. Once Harley's seven year commitment ends they will probably trash any remaining parts they can't use. |
