So after following the X vs. XT thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/599780.html?1287522394
I got to thinkin is the XT closer to the X or the SS? Is the XT an SS with triple tail, luggage and heated grips or is it an X with lower suspension?

Basically both, but it fits the lowered X description more. XT does not share the suspension components with any other bike.

Height-wise, shortest to tallest:

Ss (08 and earlier)
TT (and '09/10 Ss; the Ss got the TT suspension in 09 when the TT was killed)
XT
X

All have the same 54" wheelbase.

It's more accurate to call an XT a lowered X, because you get not only the Uly tail and flyscreen setup, but also the handcrank adjustment for rear preload. But that's just my perspective, which we all know is....um....warped? ; )

I think the best part of the bike is you can't tell what it's closer too. An adventure tourer? Sport Bike with nice ergos?

"XT does not share the suspension components with any other bike."

Did another model ever have 47mm forks in the same length as XT forks?

Only the 08-10 XB12X and XP had 47MM forks.

(Also the 1125's)

The XT had 43MM forks. While a few minor pieces of the suspension may have been shared (like fork seals), the overall package is unique to the XT.
