Is there any way to hop up the charging system output. Its ok by itself but can not run extra lights and heated gear with grip heaters on too. I have a Signal dynamics led volt meter and it stays green if I run 1 at a time, but if i turn em all on it goes to flashing red- less than 12 volts.I`d like to run the xtra lights when i come home in the morning but the heated jacket gets the nod these days. The lights are 55 watt platinum burners from Wally world and help out a bunch but can`t use em with the heated jacket, a gen3 from Warm&Safe with there portable controller. |

Retrofit a 03-07 XB stator and voltage regulator, or dump the crappy extra lights. |

The older units put more juice out than the 08`s ? |

Yes, your bike has a 30 amp single phase unit, while the older models have a 38 amp triple phase. |

Heya Froggy, How much do the standard electrics on the Uly draw? Or in other words, how many 'free amps' are available for ad-on electric farkles? And besides the difference in amperage, what's the important difference between the single and triple phase units? Thankya |

Dumping the cheap crappy lights and getting these 1 ea 10 and 24. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60 7184 Should be better light and easier on the Alternator. (Message edited by Barkbuster on November 08, 2010) |

This is what I used to estimate excess capacity on my '06 Some of the number came from the User's manual, some from Buell.com and some from powerlet products web site... they are estimates
Components | Watts | Amps | Headlight | 55 | 4.58 | License Plate lamp | 5 | 0.37 | Brake/Tail Light | 3.36 | 0.28 | Instrument Panel | 6.37 | 0.5 | Computer | 25 | 2.08 | Fuel Pump | 72 | 6 | Cooling Fan | 72 | 6 | Electronic Ignition | 50 | 4.18 | | | | Common Operating Load | 288.73 | 23.99 | | | | | | | Alternator @3000 rpm | 481 | 34 | max | 494 | 38 | | | | | | | Excess capacity | | | min | 192.27 | 10.01 | max | 205.27 | 14.01 | | Oh and last time I posted this.. Froggy pointed out a number that was slight off... but can't remember which one... I'm sure he will point it again (Message edited by gamdh on November 08, 2010) |

Swapping your low beam and fog lights to 35 watt HID's will net you more light output with 60 watts less current. Also throw an LED bulb in the license plate light for another 4 watts. Those together will save you about 5 amps. |

Mike do you have the bulb number for the license plate lamp? |

+1 on the earlier electronics. I run heated jacket, gloves, grips, and a pair of 55w halogen aux lights on my Uly. edit: duh. Helps to put that mine's an '06... My Kuryakyn voltmeter will drop out of the green and into the amber with everything on...at idle. Going down the road, 2 greens, all the time. If the jacket is "switching" (i.e. turned on a lower setting than 'high'), the meter will bounce from one to two greens as the jacket switches. (Message edited by ratbuell on November 09, 2010) |

Got my lights today! Will install em tomorrow. My o8 Can`t run all all the stuff you can ratbuell. Much lower output on mine. Its the lights, or the grips and Jacket but not all 3. New lights only draw 34 watts @ about 3.5 amps. Should be a bit more room to keep the battery up! |

How about a couple of those bicycle generators that run against the side wall of the tires, heck there is enough excess horse power that you could probably run a half dozen or so on each tire. Word of warning though, they might start a fire at over 100 mph! |

Too bad there isn't a "radio" or police stator available. Or is there? |

Nope. XPs were all LED lighting, virtually no draw at all, and the siren took the place of the OEM horn (electronics-wise). All of the system on an XP ran off the aux circuit, in line with the cigarette lighter sockets. |

By "all led" you mean signals and tail, right? I've been following the emerging led headlight breakthroughs as I can find them... |

No, I mean emergency light kit...since the question was about a police stator upgrade, LED lighting doesn't really require an upgrade like strobes used to. You could probably power the current Whelen TIR3 and Federal Signal Cuda's with a 9V or AA battery! |
