I am in the middle of putting new skins on and I notice that the 2009 service manual keeps referring to "Follow special ANTI-SEIZE procedure." section 5.1 torque values. however when I look through the respective sections 5.7 rear axle torque, i cannot find any mention of ANTI-SEIZE listed, or any special tables for this procedure. Please help |

AFAIK, the "procedure" is to just slather the hell out of the axle with anti-sieze, put it in, and torque it with the compound on the threads as opposed to dry threads. |

The axle is steel with a galvanized like coating. Liberally painting it with anti-sieze everywhere but where it will be exposed is a good idea. It will need to be redone about every third tire. It is a grease paint that coats the metal and seals out the primary corrosion causing air and moisture. It not only does that but it lubricates and its particles prevent the steel from locking into or causing corrosion bonding to the aluminum swing arm's threads. Try not to get that crap on your hands or clothes, rubber gloves and disposable towels need to be on hand. Don't forget to do the front axle when it is out next time. |
