Came across these on fleabay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nomad-Rider-33L-Pannier-Set-KLX-650-DRZ-400-panniers_W0QQitemZ260673138353QQcategoryZ84146QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m444QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252BLM%252BLA%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5168950186404981613#ht_500wt_956 Always wanted some aluminium toploading pannier for my Uly, but I don't have the $1000 to shell out, so I thought I give them a try and built my own sideracks. Got them for $237 incl. shipping. Figured I always can use them as storage boxes, if they are crappy.
Used 3/4"x3/16" square tubing for the rack
For paint I used rubberized truck-bed coating from Napa, gave it a very nice textured and hopefully durable finish.
Used these http://www.happy-trail.com/Happy-Trails-Pannier-Mount-Kit.aspx to mount the panniers to my frame.
That's the finished product, think it turned out pretty good. Paid $237 for the actually very well made pannier set, $50 for the Happy-Trails Pucks, $40 for the material and $10 for the coating. $337 for panniers and racks that are as stout as any of the available sets out there. |

More pictures of them on your bike please! That is so close to what I'm looking for it's not even funny. I'd have already bid on them if they were a bit wider with a bit more capacity. |

33l is a lot of capacity. They do make a 40l capacity one that is wider. I went with the "smaller" ones because they are mounted exactly the width of my handlebars. Will post more pics tomorrow. |

Panniers and racks are on my short list of things to start fabricating. Your work looks great, and you cannot beat simplicity in panniers or racks. Designs like this are hella stout. Alex |

Hey Hunn. Nice work on the side mounting racks! Would you mind telling me which top rack that is on your bike? I like that one. Also, if you're sending pics, send one of your set up from directly behind the bike. Looks are a big part of any purchase. Thanks, Greg |

Hunn, do you have a link to the 40L ones? Can't seem to find them. Also, are you happy with the Happy Trails mounting pucks? Are the panniers locked to the frames with them & how hard are they to take off once mounted? I have the stock hepco becker racks that came on the Uly, should work ok with them huh? |

Uly dude: rear rack is from Twisted Throttle http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/3745/474/ with a homemade 1/4" aluminium plate. Here some more pics:
Ericridebike: The 40l panniers are not up on ebay right now. Same ebay seller that has the 33l panniers on auction right now had the big ones too. The Happy Trails pucks seem to be very solid, no rattling, no movement and easy to take off. Explained here: http://www.happy-trail.com/Happy-Trails-Pannier-Mount-Kit.aspx |

I contacted the seller who said he does have some larger size available. 9" wide. He told me to give him a call for more information. I no longer need a set, so if someone else wants them, his number is 801-796-7416 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 801-7 96-7416 end_of_the_skype_highlighting. |

The mounts you built are exactly what I'm looking for. Would you be interested in selling a copy of the plans? |
