I have stock plugs, and only run 91AKI. the clingting sounds happens at any temperature warm or cold under acceleration. Acceleration seems to be the trigger. I ran it in 10 Celsius temp and it would still clingting under acceleration. Are we sure this is pinging? I have hear a car and a truck engine knock and this is not it, but I do not know what an engine pinging sounds like. |

Mine makes a pinging sound when hot and around 4300 to 5000 rpm. Not a knock like you were to shut a motor off and it would keep running and knocking. It sounds more like someone dropped a bunch of bbs in the cylinder and they are jumping around in there. I just called the dealership and mine is fixed, according to them it needed AFV values changed and a new tps installed. Hopefully they are right. |

BBs jumping around thats a good description for it. let us know is its all fixed up. BTW anyone know how to do a TPS reset on a 2008? any such thing as an adaptive fuel valve reset? |

To resetTPS on an 08+ Buell, do the following: 1. Turn on the key. 2. Set the kill switch to the run position. 3. Don’t start the engine. Rotate the throttle from fully closed (gently forced closed) to fully open (gently held open), and then back again to closed (gently forced closed). 4. Repeat 3 times. Hold each position (fully open, fully closed) for 1 full second. 5. Turn the key off and on. |

I picked up the bike yesterday. Didn't get a chance to put some miles on it until this morning. I put close to 200 miles on it. When I left this morning it was cool out, around 58. I fired the bike up and let it idle a few minutes, then headed for the gas station and filled it with mobil high test. The bike was running great! Lots of power, no pinging. I was keeping the rpms mostly in the 4000-5000 area. I noticed the last 20 or so miles the bike started pinging again. The outside temp had climbed to 70s. By the time I got home the bike was acting just like it did before I took it in ...pinging and loss of power. Also noticed the fuel was bubbling pretty good in the tank for awhile after shutdown. I'm bummed |

So I started to use some 94 octane gas and WOW I got my bike back! No more studder, no more clingiting sound she is running great! I floored her this morning coming in reving her up near the redline and she was fine. However, I have noticed a new sound. sounds like my engine is knocking now. Not sure if this is new from today, from since i am using 94 or from earlier; but today it was louder so i recorded it with my blackberry. Is this the sound of an engine knocking? |

Mattmcc00, I couldn't hear any knocking in your motor sound file. So 94 cured your pinging...I don't think we have any at run of the mill stations around here. I might be able to get some higher then 93 at an airport but that would be inconvenient while on the road. I have even entertained trying some additives but I need to do some research on those before using any in my bike. |

my theory on the matter is that when we gas up from a regular 1 hose pump we are getting some loads of regular 87 octane gas from the gas that is left in the hose from the previous pumper. Around here Petro-Canada always sells 87, 89, 91, and 94. Cars usually use 87 or 91 in the summer, and in the winter we run 89 or 94. Also here is a sound clip from what my bike NORMALLY sounds like. Notice the lack of the clankyty-clakitty sound. Thx, Mattmcc00 |

Mattmcc00, the left over gas in the hose theory is a good one. I have heard of people using only the stand alone pumps. However, those are getting hard to find. Most here in my area are the three grades together with the one hose. So yeah, you would get a good slug of low test if that's what the person before you had used. I'm doing some online research into fuel additives. Toulene is interesting |

well, seems like the 94 made things worst. I am now getting some very hard knocking after driving it for 30mins. Makes the whole bike shake. |

I put 87 in mine last weekend and I didn't hear any pinging. I'm heading up to Tallahassee for the poverty riders rally this week so we'll see how she does on mid-grade. |

You're right Eulysses, I'm going to put my ear plug speakers in and enjoy a little Allman Bros. on the ride up. Starting with Melissa |
