So I bought a new belt to be put on my bike this winter when I do the 2010 wheel and free spirit idle pully assembly. My question is, now that I've got a spare belt, I want to carry it with me at all times. I mean these things are easy to swap out and this would save me alot of potential walking. Has anyone found a good/creative place to store a spare belt on the Uly? Assume no panniers or top case. I'm thinking either under the seat somehow or that huge air filter cover - but perhaps tucked in up front or underneath somewhere. If you've done it, or seen it done, please enlighten me. Roll it up and stick it under the seat, or zip-tie it to the rear grab rails. | ||

 The old belt was quite flexible and it didn't feel like it was fighting any of the bends. There's a tire plugger back in the area by the tail light and then you can see the tool roll. The original tool pack is under that one. | ||

Put the new belt ON the bike. Carry the old, stretched belt under the seat. Easier to put on if you're on the side of the road. Tootal - be careful of that inside-out bend around your seat latch. First, it's inside out, and second, it looks like a tight radius...don't go any tighter than the radius of the front sprocket, and I wouldn't go that tight unless it was in the "right" direction... | ||

Rat, that belt was so loose it was not in any strain, even that tight. I was surprised how flexible or loose it was. It had roughly 15,000 miles on it and was loose on the pulleys. I would never do that to a new belt. I just reread his thread and I guess I assumed he was putting it on and carrying the old one but I assumed wrong!  By all means, put the new one on at home because it's NOT easy. Well, not with the stock idler anyway. Carry the loose one that will be easy to put on, on the side of the road, in the rain! | ||

Hey Tootal, Which Odyssey is that, and how did you get it to fit? Inquiring minds wanna know. I called the company for fitment and was told that they did not have one for my Uly. Thanks | ||

Read a post not too long ago on ADV where one Bueller zip tied his under the rear fender. Will be taking a look at that when mine comes off for the swap one of these days. | ||

No way would I zip tie a $150 belt to an unsecured place on my bike. Who is that guy anyway, I could use a spare belt. | ||

thanks for the pics tootal, and the ideas Froggy. That's what I'm looking for. If I wasn't clear, I am intending to put the new belt on and carry the old as a spare. I'll let you know what I come up with this winter. | ||

Electraglider_1997, if someone ran off with your old used belt, it wouldn't be hard to figure out who. It isn't like someone is gonna put it on a GSXR  Plus karma will get them and it will break in BFE  | ||

Wasn't there someone on this board who was running an abused (is twisted, cracked...) belt to failure, just to see how many miles he could get out of it? | ||

I'm doing that with an 1125 belt. Got a new belt from Court a couple of years ago. Rolled it up like a band-saw blade and put it under my seat for 2 months in the Spring.    After 2 months, I put it on Loretta at 16210 miles. It is still pulling Loretta along with 25.7k miles on the clock. I keep a spare belt there now still, and can change it on the side of the road with "road tools" in about a half-hour. I am curious as to the comparative strengths of the Uly belt compared to the 1125's. Zack |
