My 23k mile 06 Uly has an intermittent issue the Buell Tech (still under extended warranty) and I can't seem to cure. A few weeks ago after an extended high speed jaunt on the freeway on a very hot day, I got off at my exit and the bike lost power. Got a CEL, but limped it the 1/4 mile to the house running on one cylinder and occasionally poofing flames out the exhaust. The code I pulled on the laptop was rear coil shorted or open. Let the bike cool a few hours, started again, CEL still. Dealer picked up bike a few days later, started, no CEL, ran fine. Coils checked fine, wiring and connectors looked OK. Still had code in history, but no obvious problems so I took it home. Couple tanks of gas later, 5 minute run for gas on a cool morning- same misfire, same CEL, dealer picked up bike. This time, no issues, no CEL, no codes in history! They've been riding the bike, no issues (again). My Uly is my daily transportation and, working 2nd shift, I depend on it to run well enough to get me home late-night. Needless to say, this new "V-Single" situation is leaving me lacking confidence in the bike... Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks! -Mike |

Swap in a known-good coil and ride the piss out of it. Sounds like the coil is overheating. Either that, or the ECM is heating up and getting wonky (again - swap with a known-good one and try to reproduce). Also, K.I.S.S. - check your plug wires for rubs and possible shorts. |
