Just a quick poll on whether or not you have done the breather reroute and if it's was a positive , negative or no change mod. |

I was just going to ask the same question! I would like to know if it would do anything for my 08 XT? Thanks. |

I did it (without a catch can, sludge drains out behind the left passenger foot peg). The bike definitely runs better. Now all it gets is clean, cool air instead of hot fumes. PS: '06 12X (Message edited by snub13 on July 26, 2010) |

I did it to my '08X ... big improvement ... especially when the air is cold ... much smoother pull off with low RPM. I used a pneumatic water trap, with drain through a pipe, and with small air filter ... amazing how much liquid comes out! |

In my opinion, it is stupid not to do it. |

Did it on the XB9S, and low RPM drivability is GREATLY improved. No more stumbling under 2500 RPMs. I have not done the Uly yet, but I have purchased the catch can from Pegasus Auto Racing for it....hopefully will get to it this week.

I get about 2 ounces per 1,000 miles of riding with the XB9S...not really that much. |

I did it on Saturday. I did a very short ride in the evening after. I had what felt like a couple of stumbles right after I started, but I did not feel any notable difference even after it warmed up. Should the difference be immediate, or does the ECM need to "relearn"? |

Is there a write up of this mod? Did a quick search and found a bunch of references only. |

08 XT. Did it just like Snub13 did. The only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. |

I did mine this weekend and finally rode it to work today. I have noticed a smoother idle and it almost always hiccups when could but didn't!!! I did a TPS reset (08) after I got to work and I will see how it goes on the way home. Total mod cost was about $20. I chose to run the filter inline near the oil cooler off a tee and run the other end of the tee to the rear of the bike to see what collects. |

I haven't done it to either of my bikes. Not sure what the benefits are. |

If you have done this but have not noted a difference in performance, try giving your airbox and intake a good cleaning. Follow this up with a ride and see if you can notice the difference. |

Got some more miles on mine and it definitely runs better. I did notice a slight odor while stopped in traffic for a bit so I may move the filter slightly more aft. Not going back to stock thats for certain. I already drained some water out of the hose after a brief 20 mile ride. |

Did mine yesterday. Found enough parts in the garage to do it for free. Used the short hose off the rear head to plug the two holes in the lower airbox. Ran fresh hose down the right side, tied it off to the rear brake lever. No can, just hose. Z |

It seems to me that the only bikes that this mod would be beneficial to are the ones that have some engine wear and a lot of blow-by. An engine that is in good shape and with low miles really should not have that much crud coming out of the breather hoses, should it? Or is my theory all wrong? I really would like your opinions on this as I am real close to trying this on my 08 XT with only 3,000 miles but I have some doubt it will make any noticeable improvement. I don't want to waste my time just trying it and then removing it later. Thanks. |

I did it ~6 months ago. No measurable change in gas mileage; maybe slightly better low-RPM operation. I copied the setup posted on buellitinboard.com, but I'm not 100% satisfied. I get negligible collection of gunk/water at the bottom of the hose (a few drops per tankful of gas), but a significant amount of oil fumes out of the filter, which causes dust/dirt to stick to the primary cover. |

Motorbike, I am pretty leary of many of the mods I read about on the internet. I am also very objective about the results of the mods that I perform. Before the mod I almost always got a hiccup or two when first driving away after a cold start, that issue is gone. On occasion I used to get a hiccup while the bike was warm but I havent experienced one of those yet either. I have noticed I can smell the oil mixture slightly while stopped so I plan to move the filter behind me near the swingarm. I am convinced that the bike runs better across the rev range. It idles better and has better low speed manners. As for the water and oil that usually ends up in the airbox with the stock configuration mine was minimal. What makes me think is what impact the warmer air had on the intake charge and if positive crankcase pressure somehow skewed the air sensor in the air box. All I can say is I am not going back to stock. Its cleaner, runs better and only cost about $20 just my 2 cents |

Did mine today (minus the catch can, just venting to atmosphere for now...sent my can to Pete at Grandstand for anodizing)...and HUGE difference, just as on my XB9S. Power difference? no. Fuel economy difference? no. (at least not on my XB9S, and I don't expect it here either) So why do it? Low RPM drivability is so different with that spooge vented out. I can cruise around at 1200-1500 RPM with no issues now, before it would kick and sputter at those RPMs. Huge difference in feel. Woohoo! Cost for today's mod: free. I had all of the hose, clamps and "T"s laying around from other projects. |

Hhhmmm...perhaps. If not, it's less than $10 in materials. My dad and I run our own business and office out of his house- ride on over someday (in Coon Rapids) and we'll fix you right up! |

Thanks guys! I think maybe I'll try it and if I don't like it, it will be easy to go back to stock. I've wasted money on dumber things! Since the bike was new, it has always been less than impressive below 3,000 RPM. Slight hesitation, cough, sputter, hiccup etc., seems to run lean. I let one of my brothers ride it last week for the first time and before he took off, I told him to keep it above 2,500 RPM at all times and it would run fine. He loved it but I'm hoping that if I ever let anyone else ride it after the mod (slim chance), I will not have to remind them to keep the revs up. Thanks. PS Where would a good place be to mount the filter so I don't smell oil fumes, as Rwcfrank mentioned? |

I just did it tonight. I have the comfort kit on it and I had to reroute my hoses as I tried to route it out the left side of the frame and down with a Tee under the snap inplace air deflector on the left side....well the seat won't fit that way so I had to rout it over the shock and towards the left side and that wouldn't let the seat fit either, so I routed it inside the rail and tee'ed a clear line down to the foot peg with a plug in it and one out back through the seat tray with a filter on it. The filter was a metal Walmart clearance piece for $3. |

Please help me understand why the breather is needed. I thought the black plugs/hose fittings on the top of the rocker boxes were also one-way check valves. Why not just run an open hose down to the foot peg area like the fuel overflow hose? |
