Pretty straight-forward, I found that my oil cooler has sprung a leak or two. It isn't terrible, but it is enough to notice.

So should I just replace the part or try to find a larger model and fab a mount? I love this ride and don't have the R/S/K/Whatever issues, and aside from the chaffed wire fix on the fuel pump and having to grease up electrical and ignition connections, I haven't had significant issues--of course it helps to buy from someone who took care of other items previously.

Anyway, has anyone else upgraded the oil cooler? I remember Treadmarks mentioning that he wanted to some time back, but I'm not sure if that ever happened. I'm not afraid to re-engineer a mount, but I am afraid of putting the investment in for not.

Your thoughts?

You mod for an upgrade you'll also have to figure out the different hose connections. The original works pretty good though.

Someone here added two computer fans to his cooler. I would say that is the thing to do.

Um...the pre-08 XB's have standard -AN fittings. '08-up are the ones with the jiffy-tite fittings.

Any speed shop has -AN stuff, and adaptors galore.

Well that sucks. : |

Is it the cooler itself or is it leaking at the fittings?

I'd just replace with OEM.

Yeah, it's not the fittings but the cooler itself--looks like two spots at least. Not sure what caused it, but it's right at the bottom and has been dribbling out a bit all season, and pretty efficiently for a couple weeks now.

Sidelined.

Anyone know what a new stocker costs, or what an aftermarket one goes for? Looks like I'll hafta dig out my old HD accessories catalogs for the latter, though I'm not too keen on throwing any additional chrome on the bike.

$132 for a new OEM one.

And remember - NO thread sealer on an -AN fitting! Put 'em together clean and dry!}

That's what I did Joe, since I didn't see any on the fittings from before. Thanks for the heads-up though--the thought of using sealer or tape had crossed my mind.

Another option would be to take the old oil cooler to a radiator shop and have it repaired.
