I had my XP in at the dealer for some warranty work. I just got the bike back. I asked them to do the latest flash, which they did, and the bike promptly started running on one cylinder! It took them a couple days to find out the problem, and it is fixed now.

Problem is the fan runs exactly the same as before. It most definitely does not have the latest flash as described here and elsewhere. Oh well. They didn't even know what I was talking about when I asked them to do it. Thing is, they flashed it with "something" and it ran "different". My understanding is that you can't go backwards on these flashes, so I'm wondering what I have now?!

Any thoughts on what I now have on my bike? The warranty issues are resolved, and the bike runs fine. I have no complaints. Service dept was great. But, after the research I've done, I did want that flash, and it didn't happen. I guess I'm confused just because you supposedly can't go back, yet they hit it with something.

Yes, Ican ask them what they did, but as nice as they were, they didn't know what I was talking about

Use ECMread to check what calibration you have.

how does your fan run now? Does it come on when you get over about 15 mph and go off again when you drop below it?

Nope. It runs as it did before. Comes on when the bike gets hot. Turns off when it's cool. Runs at shutdown. The puzzling thing for me is they flashed it with something, but supposedly you can't go back. Bike runs great. It just doesn't have the flash it was supposed to get.

Jim, I had the same experience recently when I had my XP re-flashed after installing the comfort kit.

I took it back to the dealer and they called the factory, who indicated that the XP ECM is programmed to use the old logic (fan runs at shutdown, not while riding unless the bike gets hot). This behavior was designed to ensure that the engine remains cool in support of police work, such as long periods of idling. (As an aside, this suggests that the rider comfort kit is, as its name suggests, optimized for enhancing rider comfort, even at the expense of lower engine temperatures in some conditions.)

My dealer was able to flash my XP with the new logic. The ECM now thinks it's an XT, and the fan is always on at speeds >15mph.

I just got back from a trip to the Sierra Mountains in CA, and with temps climbing into the upper 90's I was thankful to have the update installed.
