Hey all, Not a Buell story, this has to do with my 2000 Suzuki LC 1500. I will keep it short. Last week I rode the LC to work, 100 degrees out for the trip home. A few miles from home the bike started to sputter and backfire like the 4th of july. Thought it got hot in traffic. It would seem to run o.k. at WOT but banged out on decel and idled on one lung. Hum. Limped it home and put a fan on it. Waited till after work Friday to dive in. Started by just adding a helping of SeaFoam. Fired the bike up and let it idle on the choke for a minute. It was not running correctly still. after about a minute I said, SCREW IT! I am gonna blow it up! WHACK, VAROOOOOM, WHACK VAROOOOM and on the third WHACK and VAroooom I saw something fly out of the pipes. SO I let the bike idle down and it was fine now. So I shut it off and went for a look. I found a half dozen pieces of dense gas soaked black foam. WTF? Oh DEW DEW....... So I start to skin the bike to get to the Airbox. Once in this is what I found. A view inside the airbox. Notice the black snake of foam headed down the fwd jugs intake.
This is what I found on the driveway. Notice the nice curved shapes, notched sides and how some of the foam seems to fit together.
This is of the seal placed back in the airbox to see how much is missing. I say about 2 inches.
So the foam that I put in the airbox 6 years ago to close a gap where the K & N filter did not seal up to the bottom of the airbox decide it wanted to leave. It tried to escape down the fwd intake runner of the airbox. It made its way down the intake runner to the carb, made it past the pulsating carb slide and down past the butterfly, into and down the intake to the front jug, made its way past the intake valve getting slap chopped a bit, got smashed and burnt a little and made it out of the jug past the exhaust valve getting slap chopped some more and then it flew to freedom out the V & H Straightshots! I took the bike for 100 mile fun run at speeds the Buell sees and basically ran the DEW DEW out of it. Seems to be fine. Who would have thunk?????? BDRAG |

Tootal HAY NOW! HAHahaaaaa. The ole LC has 45,000 HARD miles on it and is only 10 years old now this month. The V strom, 04 1000 only has 55,000 REAL HARD miles on it now, Its only 5 1/2 years old now. SEPT for tires, chains and sprokets, many sets of brake pads and a few minor warranty and dealer caused issues, MY two zukes have done me right. LC was gettin about 10,000 a year on it till the Strom came along. The LC has only had about 4000 miles clocked since. The DL was a 10,000 a year ride till the Buell came along. It has about 4500 in its 6 months of service and the riding season is not even half over. See a pattern here? HAhahaaaaaaaa. I hope like hell the ULY holds up to the zukes standards to this point. Fingers crossed. BDRAG

I`m liking the looks of that road. If I get my bike back I may have to find some roads like that. There are curves in Texas? l8r bb |
