I dumped my Uly on Sunday. Long story short, a fist full of throttle, big wheely, hard landing, crash. I'm looking for a steering damper for my '08 Uly XT. already checked with American Sport Bike, without luck. Anyone else out there that can help. |

Mattmcc00, there isn't a model listed for the Uly on Ralle-Moto's site. Is there a model from another bike listed that will fit? |

In the description of the LSL one it says "Note: Will not fit 08 Uly due to greater steering angle." |

Would a steering damper have prevented the crash? I've never really ridden a bike with one, but I thought they were meant to prevent head-shake and tank slappers... |

A damper for a 08 X might not work on an XT due to the different forks and trees, just an FYI. I haven't seen any that are Uly compatible, but I haven't seen the need. |

I may suggest if you can get the mounting parts, and search for a chinese 330 or 400mm long steer damper that costs 40$, they work fine, and on my 06 I don't feel the need to get a more expensive one, and if it dies it's cheaper than a rebuild kit for any of the other makes. |

From what I have heard the Storz one will work on an 08XT as long as you haven't changed the triple clamps to the ones for the X. |

Chineese safety products...scary if you ask me. They're the same people who brought us lead toothpaste and all sorts of other scary items. |

Thanks for all the input. I'll check out the Storz. If I told you that I knew exactly what happened when I crashed, I'd be lying. It happened too fast. It was only the third time I've wheelied in over 30,000 miles. That wasn't my intent. I gave a fist full of throttle from a stop on an interstate on ramp to get up to merge speed. The bike just rotated up until all I saw was sky. I backed off too quick, came down hard and must not have had the bars straight. The bike pitched me off. I hit the road on my head and shoulder and the bike slid over my legs. I had all my gear on. I only broke a bone in my right hand, rash on my knees and couple of bruises. The bike wasn't too bad. Windshield, fly screen, instrument cluster housing, front brake lever, right side bag. I'm lucky that's all that happened. I feel pretty good for bouncing off the pavement. Thanks again. Deadwood |

Standingdeadwood, You've just given me a reason to practice wheelies in "controlled situations" to prevent an unexpected one from surprising me... "But officer, it's a safety thing..." |

Standingdeadwood, maybe a throttle damper would be more to your liking? Just kidding, glad you were not seriously injured though. |

I highly recommend this along with emergency stopping, including doing stoppies. It is best to know how to manage the bike in the event a wheel accidentally comes off the ground. Major problem on my 1125's! |
