I'm trying to replace my Cam Position Sensor, since all the parts I ordered from Liberty Buell finally came in. (I thought we get a BadWeb discount ?) Anyways - the CPS has a 3 pin Deutsch connector, and you have to pull the wires out of it in order to replace the CPS. The manual says to refer to the Appendix B-2, but the information there is a bit sketchy. I have pulled the wires from the connector when I did the low beam-on-all-the-time mod, but this type has me baffled. The pictures are more of a help than the words, but I'm about to start cutting and splicing wires. There is a green central locking wedge, that I think needs to come out first, but I'm having no luck. Any suggestions ? |

That first one is it, but I tried pulling on the green piece with needlenose pliers until I thought it would break. Thanks for the reference information ! |

This quote is mentioned in both the service manual AND the last reference: "Once all contacts are in place, insert wedgelock with arrow pointing toward exterior locking mechanism." On the CPS connector, the arrow was NOT pointed toward the external locking mechanism when I pulled the 2 halves apart. I pulled apart the speed sensor connector since it was similar - same story there also. Maybe that's why the green piece won't pull out ???? |

Vern, I did find a (just barely)bare wire to the speed sensor connector while I was in there. Not that will change anything if I can't get it back together. |

I've had no trouble with mine (played with them several times) but as you mentioned they seem to have been put together wrong. |

The first and third links that Sleez posted helped quite a bit. Again - Thank you ! When I got home from work, I worked on the 3-post Deutsch connectors again. I finally decide to get firm and used the needle-nose pliers again. Grip tightly and pull, and they pop out. From there it is pretty straight forward, just be sure to hold the back side of the seal in place (as it shows in one of the links) when you are pulling the wire out. I finished replacing the Cam Position Sensor, heat shrink wrapped the tiny bare spot I found on the speed sensor, shrink wrapped and taped up some other minor wear areas, and buttoned it all back up. Biggest change was the new headlight - I finally replaced the old unit - the low beam side (HID) was pretty much down to very little chrome on the reflector inside ! The Osram 65W high beam side was still perfect , but the change is pretty dramatic. Actually runs, but tomorrow will be the test to see if it has any effect on the Skip /Spark running issues. If not ECU is next. |
