Do you you really need to make the cradle or can you just put a motorcycle jack under the muffler with a couple of supports and do it? It's time for a tire change. |

You can just use the motorcycle jack and some straps to keep it from tipping. The cradle just allows you to lift it up before you strap it (which is wise to do even with the cradle). |

I just tip it to the left on the kikstand and slide a block (8x8 and a 2x4) under the desired jack point (there is one for the front and one for the rear). Jack points are marked in the muffler. |

You could probably do it fine w/o a cradle with due diligence. I made mine in about 30 mins with my bandsaw and cordless drill, made me feel much, much more comfortable. But I did lift mine briefly before the cradle and the lift arms on the jack lined up with the Uly's lift points fine (cheap HF lift). I did use two ratchet straps to hold it in place. |

I lift mine with my floor jack using the cradle I made on the band saw. I keep the bike from tipping over by putting it on a swingarm bike stand first. so far, so good. I would day you could lift it with a 2x4 if you wanted to. just make sure you have the bike supported from tipping over. I have also seen people keep the bike from tipping over by strapping it to the rafters in their garage. |

I put the jack toward the back of the muffler and lift, the rear goes up, and it stays on the stand. |

Can you guys post a pic of the cradles? i just bought this lift: http://reviews.canadiantire.ca/9045/0091015P/revie ws.htm I think i will need to make a cradle of some sort. I was thinking of using a 2x10 with a block of thick memory foam on it?? IKEA sell cheap memory foam pillows.. does that sound weird? anyother ideas? |

I cut cradles from pieces of composite deck board that I glued and screwed together to make thicker pieces. I also put rubber pads in the cradles to help hold the bike steady and also prevents scratching the muffler. Works great! I always use the turnbuckles to hold the bike steady each time I lift it. Only problem is, I cannot lift the bike when the muffler is hot, it will melt the rubber pads. They are not totally necessary but I put them on anyway. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/521995.html?1260840648 |

You can also hoist it from the ceiling using all sorts of different methods--I first used 2 ton ratchet straps wrapped around the rafters in my garage, because I'm pretty ghetto and cheap. |

+1 for the ratchet strap method. I just go to the garage door braces because the ceiling is finished. Doesn't take much weight to lift the back or front of the bike. |

I have been hanging bikes from the ceiling joists in the garage for years using a two ton Come=Along.

I like these canoe carrier pads and strap the bike to the lift at the seat support frames. |

Cabelas $6 each and I trimmed them to fit the jack. Any big sporting goods store should have them. |

Mnrider, what material are those made of and will they melt if the muffler is hot? Looks like a nice simple inexpensive but effective solution. Nice job! Thanks. |

It's a dense foam, you have to trim it with a hack saw blade. Lifts the Blast too. |

I went with the cradle made from a 2X4.I have no exposed rafters in the garage, Cabelas was all out of canoe carriers and I had a 2X4. Thanks everyone for the ideas.
