I just installed the comfort kit on my 2009 XB12XP and had the dealer do the reflash last week. So off I went this weekend for some forest service roads, and to my chagrin the fan behaved exactly as before. I was riding with a friend who has a 2010 XB, which provided a clear benchmark: his fan was running as we rode, mine started running after we stopped. I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow, but any ideas? I hope this is not expected behavior for the XP. |

Do you have an ECM cable? You could peak at the what version software is on there, that will tell you for sure if they actually did the update or not. |

Thanks for the suggestion Andy, but I don't have an ECM cable. I double-checked with the dealer to make sure they did the reflash and they showed me some paperwork indicating the work was done. The tech was Kevin at Downtown Harley in Seattle, who definitely knows his way around a Buell... |

Someone else can confirm this (and maybe enlighten us to the actual process), but I believe that Buell has a database on your bike, and that database will show what your current firmware is. Now, if that's just a manually entered firmware number....then it would worthless info because it is no better than the dealer telling you he updated when he really did not. However, if it is electronically done from a confirmation from the ECM while it is connected....you may be able to simply ask another dealer to look at the database for you and find out if you have the update, I hope all made sense! It really sounds to me like the flash was attempted but did not take to your ECM. |

Gringo, the right side scoop on the comfort kit is not the same size as the left side scoop--it's a bit smaller. It is larger than the one in your pic, which looks to me like the right side scoop Buell sold prior to introducing the comfort kit. |

I can almost promise you you did not get the newest flash. I just upgraded to the Comfort Kit Flash last Friday, and the difference is very noticeable. Once it's up to temperature, the fan runs on basically a switch, the second you hit 15 MPH it turns on full speed, and the second you drop below 15 it shuts back off. I rode for 45 minutes through the city in 85 degrees, and when I shut it off I had no fan operation. |

When I first bought my bike, a leftover '08 in the spring of '09, the dealer said that they gave me the latest flash. Well the bike ran like crap for the first month or so, and when I took it to another dealer for the 1000 mile service, they said that it didn't have the latest flash. They flashed it and all was well after that. They said that sometimes the flash gets interrupted while downloading, and it doesn't "stick". I don't know if the tech would notice or not, but apparently it can happen. |

Oh, and I recently got my comfort kit flash, and it operates exactly like Mikef5000 describes. |

Thanks for the confirmation guys. This is my second Uly and so I know the fan's still kicking it old school--I'll take her back to dealer and make sure they do it right this time. |

Gringo - the picture you posted is of the comfort kit scoop, at least, it's the same as the one that I put on my '06 (Buell comfort kit, complete - inner/outer RSS, undertail duct, and header heat shield). Other XB's have a smaller scoop on the right side. I don't think the scoop for a cat bike is different than a non-cat bike. I think the only difference was for police/non-police because of the siren bracket...but I've been wrong before |

Ratbuell/Gringo- there is a different kit for cat-equipped bikes. According to the accessories catalog: XB12X/XT, Cat Exhaust P/N M1907.3AK The kits are shown on page 18 of the catalog; you can download it from the gear/accessories section at buell.com. |
