Yes, I've looked at the "agenda" etc... I've only actually met two other Uly owners from this forum: JPhish and FSkinner. Both pretty good guys. I do not have H-D roots at all; this will be the first rally of this type I've ever attended. Will there be excessive H-D overtones (I'd guess not after recent events)? At the 2007 ADVrider.com "WestFest" (held about 100 miles from my home) it seemed like everyone was trying a little too hard to live up to their electronic persona; I was lucky to make a couple friends and it was OK, I guess. Anyway, just wondering about the "tone" of the event. I'm not from the Midwest/Wisconsin, and kinda lost in that area... But...I'll be happy to talk "Uly spark plug blowout and subsequent repair" till the cows come home...oh yeah, there was also that recent test ride. --Doc P.S. Never did completely diagnose THE WHINE. If I don't show up you'll know it got me. |

Doc, With the exception of a few.....well, uh, documented cases of the above.....I liken it to going to a family reunion with cousins that you know about and just haven't met yet. Avoid pink thongs and all will be well. The twister games aren't so bad. The people of BadWeB that I have met are as real as it gets. Seems like there are not many posers on BadWeB who meet up to ride Buells. See ya there! |

Wisconsin is home to some great beers and a great "taste" beer festival in August. So wake up, have breakfast, ride hard, return, drink beer, tell lies, enjoy the company of folks with a common theme. |

Doc, while your in the area, spend some time in Milwaukee and take a short ride down to Lake Geneva. Great smaller towns to visit. As for homecoming itself, your going to meet some motorcyclist who have a strong passion for their Buell motorcycles and truly enjoy talking about them. The first time I met Court, it was at the Boiler Room (Diana's bar) and there was a S2 in the parking lot. There was several Buell riders standling around it listening to Court tell all about the model. Very interesting to learn about the older bikes. Its just too bad we won't be able to see the factory in operation, it was such a small place that had so many great people making a true AMERICAN MOTORCYCLES! |

Homecoming 2008 was THE most fun I have EVER had in one week. Everything is in place to leave in a week. Bills are paid, Uly has tags and insurance, title is on the way. Can't wait to see everyone again. Zack |

Okay, fellas. I'm staying at the Alpine; arriving on Wednesday and leaving Saturday. It's gonna be a darn near 2,000 mile ride through the heart of the Midwest to get there so this better be good! --Doc |

Greg, You get to drive thru either Colorado, Missouri, or Arkansas. You can't complain! That's 2 demerits! I mean....there are good men stuck in Florida for God's sake! (Let's have a moment of silence for those stuck in FlatLand) |

Dr. Greg, I've only met two other board members myself. One of those isn't coming to Homecoming and the other is leaving Thursday I think. So, I will be looking for friendly faces as well. I am sure there will be plenty. |

HD events = people TALKING about going riding, on spotless bikes while lots of equally spotless trailers are parked at the hotel. Lots of d&^k-waving, "look how cool I am" conversations...and not much else. Other than free food of course, from somewhere. Buell events = people GOING riding. Not many trailers at the hotel (although I have to admit ours will come to WI in a truck). Tons of goofy-ass folks (think "college Saturday night on campus"), lots of fun, some great stories to be told (and even more being written while you're there), and a chance to meet some of the coolest people you will ever have the honor of knowing. And if you're really good...Court brings coffee to the campsite in the morning |

I go to Homecoming to be totally immersed in motorcycling, in general; and Buells, specifically. I really enjoy hanging out in the parking lot talking about motorcycles, looking at modifications, getting ideas on what changes might make my bike fit me better, or what just might be possible. I first saw a Throttlemeister at a Buell gathering. I started thinking when I saw the custom mounting brackets for a set of Givi bags on an 1125R. I've met some of the finest people I've ever associated with at Homecoming. I got to ask the designers of my bike questions, and have received honest, non-evasive answers. I have heard the Chief Engineering Officer tell somebody to take the wheel off his own personal motorcycle and put it on an attendee's bike, when the attendee's bike was sidelined with failed wheel bearings. I have experienced the camaraderie that no other motorcycle comes close to producing. As to my little "gifts"; I do them as a form of "Payback". In 1999, I suffered a series of mechanical problems with my S3-T, while on a trip. I called the head of Buell Customer Service, and expressed my disappointment that I wouldn't be able to make it to Homecoming the following week. He told me, "You'll be at Homecoming, if I have to drive out to Massachusetts and bring you back myself." That's the spirit that surrounds Buells and everyone associated with them. I started making Give Aways to enhance Homecoming because I live over a thousand miles away, and it seemed to be the best way I could contribute to the rally. Being somewhat less than affluent, I have been restricted in my ability to provide enough for everybody in past years. This year, after my original idea fell apart, Terri and I came up with something that is inexpensive enough that we could make enough for everybody. It's a little thing that hopefully will rekindle the good feelings from this year's Homecoming long after the event has passed. |
