Anyone making funny cool stickers or emblems and selling them online? I have seen the iconic bar and shield logo that said Buell Motor-Cycles. I thought that was one of the coolest stickers ever. I would love to take off my stock Emblems on my Uly and put some nice Buell Bar and Shield emblems on there. Or maybe some Erik Buell Racing - American Motorcycles emblems to replace the stock Buell ones. Nothing against the heritage of Buell, just something to give a positive outlook on the future of the man and his dreams. |

I wouldn't recommend anything bar-and-shield-like. At least, not here |

Maturity, are you serious!!?? There is no where else in the world, where you can find more half cocked opinions fired off more blindly about things we have no knowledge about!! BTW, I had to spit that one out too. I would not walk into a Harley dealer now to piss on the toilet seat!!! |

I'll give you a punch bowel... Just kidding. Nothing about maturity, I just don't get why you would want a bar and shield on your bike- they held Erik back for so long, the dealers mostly (I know, there were exceptions) didn't like them either, then they kicked us to the curb just when it was getting good. I know we have some roots with them, but my bike is all Erik, no HD. |

Nothing to do with maturity, or the lack thereof. Even before D-Day, I never understood people who had to slather their Buells with HD logos. With the possible exception of the powertrain in an S2.... BUELLS ARE NOT HARLEYS. Period. And by and large, the people who covered their bikes with HD logos....needed some sort of validation from the HD crowd for some reason. Personally, I don't even *like* most of the HD crowd...so their approval is pretty close to the bottom of my "things to think about" lists. If you ever get a chance, meet Erik. Or Court. Hell, read Court's book. THAT will explain it all. |

Just because I have a Buell doesn't mean I don't also have a Harley. Would we have the Buell Ulysses if it weren't for Harley Davidson? Maybe we would, maybe we would have something better... most likely not. I thought the Buell bar and shield sticker was a slap to the face of Harley as opposed to praise for it. Anyway, it's done, it was a business decision made by people who know a lot more than we do. Get over it, move on, enjoy what you have. If you hate Harley, more power to you. The fact that they are one of he FEW american motorcycle manufactures, with antiquated technology who manage to have the majority market share of US motorcycles... well guess what, they are doing something right. |

Where, in either of my previous posts, did I say that I hate Harley? I owned a '96 FLHP for six or seven years and about 80,000 good miles...but it just wasn't the right bike for me (which I realized when I bought my Ulysses...and sold the FLHP about 2 weeks later). HD has a lock on an *image* and has managed to brainwash a lot of the populace into believing it, and for that I give them credit. Personally, though, I'd rather have a motorcycle that does what I want it to do and isn't full of antiquated technology. But that 'image', in my experience, is why most people put a B&S logo on a Buell. "Nobody likes Buell....so I'll try to turn it into a Harley so other people will like it" is the thought process of every person I've met with one of those stickers on their Buell. And while, if Erik hadn't teamed up with HD when he did, we might not have the Ulysses *yet*...I'm sure it'd have come to light soon enough. Which is why I can't wait to see what comes in the next chapter. Example: Erik had a fuel-in-frame bike BUILT in what, '87? Whatever's rattling around in that man's head, he'll find a way to bring it to market. He's too (stubborn) talented. |

How many of you XB owners have noticed the little bar and shield cast right into the base of each cylinder on your bikes? I forgot which side it is on and I am at work now so I cannot look at my bike. But, no matter how you may wish to avoid the fact, these Buell engines were built in a Harley factory. I realize most of you already knew that. I agree with Terrible, get over it, move on and enjoy what you have. Thanks. |

There is nothing to get over. The fact is, I do not wish to plaster a bid HD logo on my Buell Motorcycle. End of story. |

these Buell engines were built in a Harley factory. Hm. So the Joe Rocket "Buell Bolt" jacket I wear, with "Harley Davidson" cast into the plastic snap covers....it was built by Harley too? Is my S2 a PM because that's who made the brakes, or a Marchesini because they made the wheels? My Uly a Nissin? Or an Enkei? Maybe a Showa. Harley is a partial exception because they stamp their own sheetmetal and do a lot more on-site manufacturing than many companies...but for the most part, Harley don't make parts. Harley makes bikes. Just like Buell don't make parts. Nissin. Magnetti-Marelli. Enkei. Showa. Rotax. And, some cylinder castings from a plant that makes them for HD as well. I'm not trying to belabor a point...just saying that engine assembly does not a bike manufacturer make. Otherwise, that FLHP I mentioned earlier? It was a "Goetz", because at about 40k *I* built the damned engine (and it turned out to be a carbureted high compression .005" over 80" Evo with 90hp/90tq at the rear wheel - maybe I *should* build bikes, but it would be a -looking nameplate!). And while the casting plant may have cast in a B&S logo...I certainly have no desire to enlarge it or plaster it all over the rest of my bike. Hell...I'm out of warranty, where's the grinder tip for my Dremel? (although...I can't say I remember seeing those logos on my Ulysses) |

Ratbuell, I guess I wasn't very clear on my last post. My comment was kinda dumb. I really don't care either way if my bike has a Harley engine or not. I like it just the way it is. I have always thought the idea of someone taking a Harley engine and putting it in a decent chassis was kind of cool. I am glad I was finally able to buy one for a real good price. I looked at my 08 XT last night and the bar and shield is cast into the lower left front on each cylinder. It is very small and hardly noticeable. I suppose I could highlight it with orange paint? |

I keep looking for a 3"x3" H-D bar-and-shield. Gonna put "F U" vinyl lettes in front of it. Think I'll stick 'em to the undertail, so it's always getting shit on, just like H-D shat on Erik. Yea, I know it's petty and immature. I'm fine with that. |

Anyway, it's done, it was a business decision made by people who know a lot more than we do. Don't sell yourself short. They aren't that smart. Ratbuell, It's on the 08 XT. Use the drum sander tip on the dremel. I'll clean it up when I get more time. Or mayby not.

I guess the Uly rider from Gillette WY who had his throttle position sensor fail Friday and trucked it into our Colorado H-D/Buell shop wasn't so pissed at us that he lifted the toilet seat while we were taking the same sensor off one of our Pikes Peak race Buells so he & wife could get on their way. Then, when he got 1 mile down the road from returning the rental truck, and his rear wheel bearing crapped, but we were one part short to reassemble it. Did he mutter: "Jerks not carrying enough spare parts!"? No. Instead he was a decent guy so I had my wife bring my Uly into the shop after close so we could rob it of the needed parts and get him back on the road first thing Sunday morning. Yeah, us Harley dealers suck. |

Come on, Joules... Even you have to admit that you are one of a very small group of Buell supporting shops. I know of maybe a dozen nationwide that offer that level of support for Buells. Out of how many HD/Buell dealers? By the way, it looks like all you guys are pissing up a rope here. This horse has been dead for some time. |

Dave - you know I'm not a HD-hater...I used to work for a dealer, after all. My issue, like many others, was with the absolutely s**tty way the whole deal was handled, and with the "why"'s. Good dealers are still good dealers (although I'm not much for frequenting HDF anymore...for various reasons). It's HD Corporate where the morons are congregating. |

Sorry for going off a bit on this subject but it gets hard hearing about how terrible H-D dealers and riders are for those of us who are Buell owners, enthusiasts, racers & sponsors, and work at dealerships who go out of our way to treat Buell riders as good as any other rider/owner, sometimes despite the huge chip on their shoulder the first time they walk in our store. The more people avoid us, the more likely that the next time you are on the road an need an oil change, a tire, a part, a diagnostic & repair no one will have parts, trained mechanics or ability to help you. I am not saying anyone should over pay for anything, but being penny wise can ultimately end up being dollar foolish. ~jammer |

I agree. Avoiding a good dealer just because they're a "dealer"...well, that's just dumb. And I feel your pain, I got the same treatment when I worked at HDF. "Oh...you're a *dealer*, you must be greedy//some sort of ". <shrug> |

Plus one Jammer and great talking to you today. HCHD is MY dealership. I wish I found them sooner. I go past three Buell dealerships to get to them 110 miles North of me. Jammer has 2 Buells. Zac has 2 Buells The guy working in clothing has a Buell A guy in the back has a Buell These guys are Motorcycle Enthusiast NOT just Harley Enthusiast. I must say Jammer, I am glad that pretty sales lady was not there today. I may have bought a bike from her. |

Kim owns 3 bigtwins, rides like the wind too, (just did a three day to Sturgis & back through horendous storms to do a private memorial for a dear friend) and has been jonesing for that red Lightning since it hit our floor. Then there is Bones, owns an old Indian, just shipped his panhead to his son in Hawaii, has two old Nortons that try to keep up with my Uly on the single tracks at 10,000 feet, and two old Triumphs. He puts more annual miles on old Brit iron than many riders do modern motorsickles. Aside from our pleasure craft, although sales are down so we can't make the full team effort on the Salt, Pikes Peak or the drags, we are managing some: Walker went down on Pikes Peak time & tire trials last weekend, low sided at Engineers Corner last paved turn before all gravel ascent before Devil's Playground. Had to use a hose clamp as a shift knob to keep practicing. Bike was on the lift yesterday, XB12STT, 14:1 compression. Dale is torn between hockey and drag racing, his Buell is taking some trophies again this year. Yeah, we're enthusiastic which, in part, is why I get so disgusted when folks bad mouth a dealership. I just can't believe they can be that bad. The pay sure doesn't keep us here. But I admit, I have heard enough stories about experiences to confirm, there are some shithole shops that people are wise to boycott. If you have a good one, please patronize it, and let the working class stiff who you like know that they are appreciated. Frank, if I had a couple dozen more like you, they wouldn't have to pay me at High Country. (Scott, if you are reading this, its customer goodwill and PR, no truth to the rumor at all) ~jammer |

Jammer: It would be absolutly great if there was a dealership like yours in my immediate area. The closest is about 1 and 1/2 hour away (Old Glory Harley of Laurel)and there is/was a true buell fanatic that wrenches there. I hope he is still there this year. I will use them for this reason. |
