I'm replacing the rear tire on my Uly. Locally I found a shop that has the Micheline Pilot Power 2CT for less than what I'll pay for a new tire at the dealer, about $50 less. Only issue is mixing brands between front and rear. I've read a lot about the Micheline's and would like to make the switch. I personally have no issue with mixing, but thought i would make a post and see if anyone here and tried mixing and what they thought. Thanks | ||

I don't like to mix. the overall shape, roundness, of a tire is different. So if you mix them it may change the handling in corners. how worn is the front? if they have them that cheap, get both | ||

I have successfully mixed brands several times. You need to ride it within the bounds of what the tires can do as a team. The casings shapes are different as well as the rubber compounds. I have run the D616 front with the Scorpion Sync rear, and the Michelin Pilot Road II with the Scorpion Sync front. It has always handled better with a matched pair, but I was not going to throw a new tire away when all you really need to do is slow down to run what is on there. | ||

Missin44 I also do not like mixing brands. More compound differences to me as far as my concerns and I guess shape or profile can be an issue as well. I have and am currently running two different tires but both are Pirelli's. Running the Angel front and the 190/55/17 rear Scorpion Trail. Compounds seem to be compatible when the bike was pushed. I rode it Sunday as hard as I have pushed it with no issues. BDRAG | ||

I ran a Pirelli Strada front with a Metzler Roadtec Z6 rear. They were both similar sport touring oriented tires, so I really didn't notice much of a difference. YMMV | ||

I have been running Pirelli Scorpion Sync's on the front and Dunlop 616's on the rear for tens of thousands of miles with no ill effects. | ||

How in the "hell" can a 120/70 front have the same profile as a 180/55 rear? So, what does maker matter? The only way you would have a handling problem is to run a 180/55 at both ends, then the bike wouldn't even turn!!!! I will not pay $160 for a tire. What's on sale goes on the wheel that needs a tire at the time. | ||

Well what I suspected was the case proved it's self, people that had actually mixed had no issues. Ordered my Micheline Pilot Power 2CT Rear today for a great price of $152. | ||

Scorpion Sync front with a 170 series D205 handled REALLY bad on a uly. It got me home, which I appreciated, but I couldn't get it off fast enough. I mixed a Metzler MeZ6 rear with an MeZ4 front on an M2, with no problem at all. YMMV. I wouldn't risk it for $50, but I might for $100, and I would for $150. | ||

Sportmax D205 rear with Shinko 006 front. Discontinued D205 was $75. Shinko was less then $100.........That's what I call tire performance!!!!!!!!!!! | ||

Scorpion Sync front and Metzeler Z6 rear. Handles better than it did with the worn out Sync rear. Mix away. No big deal. | ||

I ran a D616 rear and a Roadsmart rear with a Sync front tire for 7k miles with no problems. Only when I got down to the wear bars on the Sync did I start experiencing handling issues like wallowing on corner exits if grip was anything less than ideal. I was always more cautious on wet pavement with a mixed set, too, but other than that, it worked out great. I'd do it again. |
