This is what I did instead of eat lunch today! Bark busters with the universal 7/8" bar kit can be made to work without much of a fuss. The more crap you've got on your bars the more difficult (I have a ram mount, road chart holder, bar bag, and a couple switches) but it works. The bark busters give you a few options. You can run just the aluminum bar, the bar with the plastic deflector, and then there is an additional wind deflector that can be added, and this wind deflector has 2 height options. Ignore the red and blue switches that are floating around my bars in these pics. They were mounted to the old had guards so they're just hanging there at the moment. OEM versus bar: [img] with the single deflector: With the additional deflector set on high: Done! (all these shots have the additional wind deflector set on low) Also installed the 7/8" universal Vista Cruise: There were no clearance issues whatsoever. Not sure why others have troubles installing this, unless they get a kit that's not the 'universal 7/8"'. The vista cruise took about 10 minutes to install, and the Bark Busters took about an hour. Bought the bark busters from here: https://www.twistedthrottle.com/imagecatalogue/ima geview/8931/?RefererURL=/trade/productview/3870/92 / and the Vista Cruise from ebay. Sorry for the fuzzy pictures (camera was set to night mode) and the typo's, I'm late for work! |

Are those Tuono mirrors threaded? How did you adapt them to the Uly mount? |

Barkbusters are sitting in my garage waiting to get installed. Hopefully this evening. I got different guards - I got the Storm (I think... VPS? They're definitely different.) The old handguards broke the first time Uleen fell over and have been loose ever since. I haven't found anything in the service manual about removing the old endcaps from the handlebars. Anything I need to know? Did you have to trim the grips? |

The end caps just pop right out and the grips don't have an end cap, so no trimming is required. I bought the vista cruise from ebay. $35 shipped: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VISTA-MOTORCYCLE-CRUISE-CONTROL-7-8-HANDLEBAR-CRUISER-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem439eb36249QQitemZ290425365065QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories The storm wind deflector bolt right on to the same bars, but have a bit more surface area, for better wind/rain deflection. The Tuono mirrors are not threaded, but neither are the OEM mirrors. They both do have the same size shaft, so they are a 1 minute swap. Super quick and easy. Have some of you guys tested the Vista Cruise on long trips? How well does it work? Once set, can yo tweak it easily for inclines, etc? Does it take up much of the grip and get it the way at all? Is it really a ten minute install, even for non-techs? Will the stock hand guards stretch that far without hurting them? It looks like the housing has to be moved at least 1/4", if not a bit more, toward the center to allow installation of the cruise bracket. Thanks (Message edited by buellerxt on April 24, 2010) |

Those barkbusters look pretty nice. @Rwcfrank the Tuono mirrors go right on to the existing mounts, no special adaptation required. |

How well does it work? It works exactly as advertised. Once set, can yo tweak it easily for inclines, etc? Yup, it just uses enough force to hold against the spring. it is still super easy to adjust with your hand. Does it take up much of the grip and get it the way at all? Takes up about half an inch. If you have large hands, I'd probably not recommend it. Is it really a ten minute install, even for non-techs? Yes, really. Will the stock hand guards stretch that far without hurting them? They are quite flexible. The quarter inch or so that you need to move it for this install won't even be noticeable. |

I got the exact same vista cruise, 7/8" universal from Aerostich, I could not get it to work, the rubber part that goes on the grip would not grip tight enough to lock the throttle, despite how much I adjusted it. A 5 cent O-Ring does the job, easier to install, easier to remove, and plain old works with zero issues. |

Thanks, Mike, and thanks for the great pictures. I'm considering it. Froggy, how does your 5 cent o-ring system work? What size/guage o-ring and how does it work? Thanks. |

I tried the o-ring thing once in my driveway. Got the fattest one I could find. I slid it on, it snapped into the grove between the bar end and the grip, then I spent five minutes with a little screw driver trying to get it back out. the rubber part that goes on the grip would not grip tight enough to lock the throttle Weird, mine was adjusted fine right out of the package. |

Also just installed the next round of little farkles. 24 LED 1156 signal bulbs. Since I have my signals modified to be running lights, I wanted bulbs that pulled less power and would last longer. Went with amber in the fronts and red in the rears. They're not quite as bright as the OEM bulbs, but close enough for me. And installed a new Garmin Nuvi hardwire power cord. I already have a switched power line run up into my flyscreen for my stebel horn relay and voltage gauge LED, so I just tapped into that. Zip tied it in there with the mess of ballasts, relays, the horn, and whatever else I shoved in there. Works like a charm. Last part on order is my Palmer windshield bracket and mini mud flap. |

I usually leave it on the grip, quick flick of the wrist its on jammed in between the handguard and grip. Another quick flick its out. It is a Caterpillar O-ring part number 8M4991. http://www.thestevensons.org/node/view/718 You can pick up a bag of them on Ebay cheap. |

Has anyone figured out the o-ring trick with Uly hand guards? |

I started the Uly yesterday on an very slight incline. I watched it for a second to see if it would walk...it was ok...turned around and CRASH! DANG! Busted my left signal light, put a curl on the end of the clutch lever and scratched my brand new Journeys. Arggh! Harley dealer has no signal lights. American bike sells aftermarket. Argh. Can't turn left...just go right hand turns only now... I think I should get those Barkbusters (have em on my dirt bikes) and mount a signal light on them...where it can't get hit. Putting the XB9 11% gear reduction so I can go more places...better make the bike tougher. Maybe bedliner on the Journeys...thanks for the pictures! Someday I will figure out how to do that myself. Maybe I should try right now and see what happens. Usually I get some error thing...and I did. I have "Shrink Pic" which knocks them down...maybe set it lower, eh? Hey! It worked! Pre-barkbuster on my dual sport CRFX.

Yup, endcaps did just pull out. Hadn't even tried when I asked. It seemed like the end of the grip was rubbing against the spine of the barkbusters and I was concerned it would interfere with smooth return of the throttle to the neutral position, so I decided to trim it. Now I'm wondering if it might allow water into the throttle components - more so than otherwise. Does anyone see that as a potential problem? |

Ah, George, sorry man. Okay, knowing we are all different, have our own ways of doing things, etc., I'll tell you what I do in regards to a 'running' bike. I SIT ON IT! LOL After watching and hearing about bike's 'falling over' over a lot of years, I switched years ago to never starting my bikes until I am on them. I've heard about how safe it is to let them idle without me on them and I've also watched, and heard of, quite a few folks have their bikes fall over or fall off a lift, 'after' they had heard all the stories and taken 'all' precautions. There's always a new way of falling, it seems. Anyway, that's just me. I'm really sorry it happened to you George and hope it's all a distant memory soon. Nice picture by the way. Beautiful territory! My wife was walking by as I was looking at it and she said, "he sure looks happy"! |

Eulysses, The same thing happened to me a few years ago. Even though I'd always heard "never warm up your bike unless you are on it" I used to let the Firebolt warm up while I got my gear on and nothing bad ever happened. Then one day I put a Drummer on, pulled it out and while my back was turned I heard the same gut-wrenching sound you did. Similar results- broken signal and curled clutch lever. It seems we only do that once. |

Anybody know if I can install some barends AND barkbusters? I don't see why not. You'll have to buy a new bolt that's long enough to go through the bar end, through the bark busters, and thread into the insert inside the bars. |
