I've got the new Erik Buell Racing Hardware arriving on Monday! I haven't had a problem but the new hardware just makes good sense to me. Hopefully I'll never have the front brake issues others have had. |

Two weeks with the new Erik Buell Racing rotor and kit. No pulsing at all...That's with the old stock pads too. Installed the HH's this weekend. |

Would it be unwise to install just the mounting kit on an existing rotor? Can it be reused if a rotor is needed later? |

I believe the bolts are supposed to be one-use-only, but I'll bet there's more than one guy here that has reused them. I hoped to install my new 6mm rotor, hardware, and EBC HH's today, but I'm recovering from a later-than-usual gig last night. I guess it'll get done one night this week. |

I've reused both the stock kit and the Erik Buell Racing kit without issue, although I'm sure neither Buell nor Erik Buell Racing would recommend it. I use Loctite blue when I reinstall. |

It looks like the floating rotor will no longer "float" Is there any movement left once the new kit is installed? (Message edited by wolfridgerider on May 24, 2010) |

Wolfridgerider, The Belleville washer will allow a small amount of movement, but you won't be moving it with just the pressure of your hand. So far my 6mm rotor and the EB installation kit are as smooth as a babies behind. It makes using the brakes a pleasure again. |

Nice shot FirstBatch! Natural light even, nice touch! The rotor has room to expand and contract, but not move right to left along the axis of the axle. It is much quieter, and drags less. I won't be surprised if my fuel economy goes up a little. |

>>>but you won't be moving it with just the pressure of your hand. A "floating" rotor, working properly, can not be detected by moving it by hand. Frequently the term "floating" is misinterpreted to mean "flops all over". A properly working floating rotor can have no perceptible motion until under braking pressure. That is a nice photo. |

Thanks for that clarification, Court. It felt good buying something from Erik Buell Racing! Every little bit helps. Please let Erik know that we appreciate upgrades like the mounting hardware that make our great bikes better. Thanks. |

Just installed my new 6mm rotor, mounting kit, and EBC HH pads. Taking a break before I replace the brake fluid (might as well while I'm at it). Hope to give a ride report later today. |

Cool, Hughlysses. I hope it rides and brakes like silk! Looking forward to your updates. |

OK- finished flushing brake fluid and went for a short ride. HUGE improvement- absolutely no pulsing. The pads seem to have a little less initial bite than the Lyndal's but more bite as you squeeze them. I'll be interested to see if that changes as they bed in. I'll go for a longer ride tomorrow (with some high speed stops) and report back on how that goes. So far, VERY good. |

I've put a couple of hundred miles on the Uly now with the Erik Buell Racing 6mm front rotor and EBC HH pads. Initial bite still seems a little reduced compared to the Lyndalls, which required a little adjustment in braking technique. OTOH from speed, this thing feels like it will out-brake my 1125CR with the 4-piston front caliper. Pretty impressive. |

While the thread is alive, I'll update as well. The Erik Buell Racing rotor and mounting setup is working fantastic, even after a day of riding in the mountains, and some two up riding. Smooth as silk and nice and progressive. I'm using the lyndall golds, which require a lot of squeeze to stop hard. At first they feel soft, so you loose that "impress me with a hair trigger" aspect braking that my 9sx has... but in the big picture it will still loop the bike with two fingers if I want it too, and I now have a lot better fine control braking in a turn or in the wet. |

Anyone ever try removing all or every other spring so that the rotor does flop all over the place ? |

Don't do it. The springs are pushing back and keeping the rotor from bouncing around loose with the stock mounting hardware. Removing some of them would make the rotor move around easier. Removing them all would allow it to bounce around at will, with only the brake pads holding it in line. Would likely hammer on your front wheel in short order. I am a couple months into my Erik Buell Racing 6mm rotor and mounting kit (with EBC HH pads), and it is still as smooth as silk. |

Ditto for me Rwven - Over a month now without any signs of pulsing. I added EBC pads as well a few weeks ago. |

I still have the stock rotor setup & switched to EBC pads...braking is now better but the pulsing did not go away. Guess I need to breakdown and call Erik Buell Racing to order my 6mm rotor and mounting kit. I can't take this pulsing any longer! BTW, has anyone just tried the new mounting kit? Has anybody just replaced the Erik Buell Racing Rotor Mounting Hardware to try and resolve the pulsing issue? |

Hi - I had quite a bit of pulsing trouble in my Uly that went from nothing to minor to major in just one (long) road trip (4k miles). Replaced the stock rotor with the new 6mm Erik Buell Racing rotor and new EBC pads (American Sport Bike) together. It is like magic now. I also have the EBC pads on my stock Lightning rotor at 5K and they are also fabulous. I'm not sure why the Uly rotor warped (big time!) and the Lightning didn't (both between 5k and 10k miles). Either way, the EBC HH pads work like a charm as long as the rotor is clean/unwarped. Alan |
