My HID kit showed up friday so I got on the install right away.
The ballasts are tiny.I did not use any relays I just wired the low beam to the o/w wire for on all the time and the high beam to the white wire. The whole setup fit on the rail the horn and h/l housing mounts to.
I took it for a ride and adjusted the lights. Yes they are a bright white light and they use less power for sure cause the engine spins faster on start up and my digital volt meter shows more volts with the key on. So I'm happy with it so far |

Nice. I got mine on thursday I wanted to do the install this weekend as well but have been sick since thursday night. (head/cheast cold the kind where if you speak you start coughing and then ur throat and chest hurts real bad) Feeling better now. Did you remove the whole headlight assembly? Or were you able to install/switch out the bulbs as-is and wire it up?? I have the 55w kit and 2 relay's that I am gonna run power from the battery. |

Nice work! Mine should be in soon. As soon as work slows down I'll get to install them. |

look great did you get the 35w or 55w? i am thinking about the 35w to keep the draw down with my radar detector, gps, xm, heated vests and grips(in winter) |

It's the 35W 4500 H7. Had to remove the headlight assy. and cut the boots to remove the old wiring and put the new wires through. I sealed the boots up with sealer. Used the double sided tape the kit came with to stick the ballasts and power supplies together and strapped it all to the rail and it fit really well. |

How did you attach the wires to the factory wiring? |

It uses all the existing factory connectors. |

FYI: Do you see the grommets in your picture that came with the HID's? You can cut a larger circle in the factory rubber shields that cover the back of your headlights so the HID grommets will lock into the rubber factory shields. |

Love those small ballast. I have the VME 'sand could only fit one in. |

I cut all the extra grommets off the hid wiring and used the stock exit hole from the old wiring in the h/l housing because it has to come out at that angle or it rubs the head tube wiring. I cut the o/w and white wires and connected them the the hid wires and made a new ground wire for them screwed to the head tube. |

MNrider, that is the exact same box placement and wire routing I used! Brilliant! |

How did you attach the wires to the factory wiring? I use butt connectors, the ones with heat shrink on them. You have to have a good crimp tool and use the V part of the crimper then melt the heat shrink. |

Mn, you should try my relay mod to keep the HIDs off while do service & adjustments. You can use your Wh/Org instead of the blue.
Also I have a 616 front tire with fair tread on it if you want it. I just put Pirellis on F & R. If not I'll chuck it. |

Okay stupid question but here I go. I just got my kit today, do you take the plastic pieces off the bulb? I am not the brightest person so please help me out. Jimmy |

Yes you take off all the clear plastic pieces. You have to cut of that small clear piece and that black plastic piece. The tang on the bulb fits in so the blue piece on the bulb is on the bottom. I took off all the grommets too and had the wires come out the stock exit hole on the stock rear cover. |

Got mine in the mail today. I still can't decide if I should bother with relays to keep the current down on the factory wire. I bought the 55w ones. hmm... |

Run a 12ga. back to the battery, save your switches & wiring. |

I haven't begun my install yet but I have the 55w and have one relay for each bulb. here is another good write up: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/517861.html?1259588834 |

are the OEM bulbs 55w? if so, why would you need relays? relays are great if you add to the circuit. like adding extra set of driving lights to the low beam circuit. then you need a relay and extra wire. because you are now way over 55w the circuit was made for. What is the amp difference between the OEM bulb and the HIDs? my understanding is HIDs are lower amp draw after the initial start up. IMHO relays are overkill in this situation. |

55w is 55w, HID or bulb, both will use 4A when on. It's that startup current for the HID's. Have not measured it on the 55's but I can guess it would be in the 10-12A range for 5 to 10 sec. which the factory wire & switch can handle but may shorten the switches life and the stock thin wire could cause a voltage drop to the ballasts, at a time when they need it most. This is all speculation on my part, if doing it I would take some measurements to justify more parts. Having a robust 12V source under the fly screen for whatever accessory you may want to add sure doesn't hurt though. |

Hay, do any of you guys have any pix of how you modified the light assembly when installing the HID bulbs? I have a set arriving tomorrow and it'd be nice to see a little more on how the installation went. Cheers. A- |

Here is my HID install on my 09' Uly. The only modification I had to do with the light assembly was on the rubber covers that seal up the headlight buckets. I needed to cut about a 1 inch hole in the back of each to fit all the wires through. The HID kit comes with a rubber grommet that seals up the holes nicely. The other things that was needed for my install was to relocate the horn and relay. You can see this in the first photo on the right. I also rewired the white headlight connector so that both HID's come on when I hit the bright lights. You can just make out the new color code... Yellow, White, Orange, Black in first picture. This is the second Uly I have run this same kit on. The first bike ran them for about 8k. Oh yeah and these are the 35w / 4300k version and they far exceed the stock H7 brightness. Take a look... Those installs look great but things get a bit more interesting when you've got a Stebel Nautilus horn to stuff in there as well! I'll have to take some pics since I've still got the flyscreen off right now. I just did a complete fork rebuild and head bearing replacement and also swapped my HID setup to the digital ballast, which I was hoping would take up less space than the analog ballast/igniters but it did really work out that way. |

I finally got my 55w HID's installed. Dam.. what a mess I made. I wanted to do it right with no mistakes. Looking at the wiring took a while to sink in where everything goes. I started yesterday afternoon figuring out the connections I will need, solder points, and didn't really get started till after dark. (I am king of procrastinators) but.. it is working perfectly and also got the 2-headlite-on with highbeam as well. (I messed up the harness connector and had to splice it out and add about 6" of wire as well, all soldered of course). !st pic was taken about 4pm yesterday, the rest were taken this morning, about 11am.
I just need to align them and I am good to go! I think they will be 150% improvement over stock! |
