Considering a new 2009 XB12T. What are the cold hard facts regarding future parts availability for this bike? I'm sure the Harley parts will be there, but what about the stuff that says "Buell" on it? Any knowledgeable input appreciated. BTW, anyone hear about the going rate for a bike like this? It has 3 Hepco Becker bags. Dealer wants $9999. | ||

The price seems a little high but that's a comparison against what I've found in/around Florida. I'm not an authority on the parts availability question but I can attest to the fact that I've been able to find everything I've needed thus far. I don't anticipate routine maintenance supplies issues because those items seem to be available via other means outside of (or, in some instances, widely available within) the H-D pipeline. These items include, but aren't limited to things like: plugs, plug wires, bearings, fluids, air filters, drive belts. In watching threads here, it sounds like some stuff has already become "out of stock" but I don't think anyone has been rendered bike-less by the lack of those items. In most instances, I thing its the color selection of an item that has dried up and not necessarily the part itself. If this is any consolation, I own and ride an early 70's Triumph and can still totally rebuild that bike today from the ground up, nearly 40 years later. My gut tells me there will be Buell stuff for some time to come. | ||

Km2 Well I bought mine on D Day. Oct 15. The dealer told me I had a 2 year unlimited miles warranty and that HD has to provide parts for 7 years. I think thats the Government making that a must. So For 2 years, now 18 months left, I should be 100% covered. The dealer was telling me that many HD dealers dropped Buell and washed their hands of any warranty and service agreement. My dealer and about 1/4 of the original HD dealers that handled Buell decided to sign on for the 7 year deal. After that its all bets off. Who knows, Maybe the vendors that supplied the OEM parts will decide to countinue support on their own or maybe the world will be perfect and Erik will find a way to keep parts on the market for us. Parts availability won't be a major issue. You can still buy brand new OEM parts for Deloreans. Price sounds right for an XB12XT, all the prices are going back up since there are less than 30 left available in the US. | ||

I purchased my new 2009 XB12X in Dec. Buell number 8 for me and I still own a 1125R and a 1999 Thunderbolt. The accessories are getting harder and harder to find but the OEM parts are still available. | ||

Seems HD is taking every opportunity to label as many parts as possible as "accessories". These are discontinued and you won't be able to get them. When I put a ZG windscreen on my bike, I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade to the bolt & well nut fasteners used on the XT and accessory windscreen - not available, they're "accessories"! | ||

Those nuts, washers and screws should be available at most hardware & big box stores. Probably for less than half the cost. Mine was done with a screw, metal shim/tube and lock nut. Nothing fancy and it's never had a problem being secured. (Message edited by itileman on April 17, 2010) | ||

Harley charged me $98 for the nuts and bolts to mount the bag racks. Probably $5 at ACE. Be glad! Our stuff is pretty standard. | ||

Hmm, I was told by my dealer that the Buells engine, though based on the same geometry, shared no interchangeable parts with the Sportster. The gaskets & bolts make sense though. I guess he was wrong, or just speaking in general terms. | ||

$1.57 at my local Ace. Been there done that. The guy at the HD parts counter was selecting the bolts, when the total got to $40 he said WTF, then wrote down what I needed and gave it to me. 
Funny, cause thats wrong, even the 1125R has some HD parts (V-rod valve shims, coolant, fasteners and other minor items)
They have an XB part number, but off the top of my head the rest of your post is correct.

Rule of thumb is, if it came from the factory *as standard equipment* on a bike, it will remain available for some time. If it was *optional* on a production bike (like the Outdoorsman bags), the "kit" won't be available because it's termed "accessory"...but if you or your parts person dig the right way, you can look at a 2009 XP police bike, and order it piece by piece (i.e. left bag, right bag, left rack, right rack...). Another example of that - although I think availability on these is still good - would be the heated grip kit. Standard on all later Ulysses bikes, you should be able to buy "grip, left heated" and "grip, right, heated", and "switch housing, right, with heat" for a while...but the N1050.1AK "kit" might not be available all in one box. Long answer short - buy the damned bike and enjoy it. Stuff needed to keep it running and functioning will be out there for quite some time, either from HD/Buell or from the aftermarket (i.e. Jims/Wiseco/S&S for engine hard parts), and the rest - heated grips, for example - can easily be substituted from the aftermarket. And our vendors here on BadWeb are just as rabid as us owners are - they'll find a way to keep us on the road! Ride. Smile. Repeat. | ||

And I can't say if $10k is a fair price for a new XB12XT with hard luggage, but I can sure as heck say you would be getting more then $10,000 worth of bike if you bought one for that. | ||

Al at American Sport Bike has/had the windscreen bolts and associated bits. I got them from him without ANY wait (because I walked in off the street, just out of the blue). I have to agree with Reepicheep. I thought the original price of the Uly was a bargain when compared to many alternatives. I recently priced a new BMW R1200R without windscreen, bags or anything other than fluids and a payment book. It was $15k+ with surprisingly little flexibility in the price. My original statement regarding the price was based on the bargains I had been seeing in Buell listings and on used dealer inventory on sales floors around Florida. | ||

There's a used 2010 XT in SoCal for well under $9k. Think it's in the bikes for sale section here. Or, I'll make you a deal on my 09 XT and I'll go to Cali and buy that one.  | ||

Thought my '09 XT was a bargain at $12K last June. Still think it was the best buy in the dealership... period. |
