Was ist das?   Secret hidden ultra stealth mode deer warning whistles!  Mounted inside the scoops!  One on each side.  All done!  They are deep enough in there that no one will ever notice them. I don't know if they actually work or not, but for a few bucks, I like having them. And dang that bike is dirty! | ||

Worked for a timber company that had them installed on all their company pickups 15+ years ago and the result was that they seem to actually increase deer impacts. Nothing scientific but just real world - so be careful. One of my coworkers said that he thought the deer heard it and stopped to listen, same concept as "deer in headlights". | ||

I once read somewhere that they start working around 65+mph. Cool idea though. Stealthy. | ||

Be careful around horse trailers. Horses don't like the sound either...and a 4 horse 5th wheel can pull the dually that's pulling it off the road if the horses get spooked enough. | ||

My Grandpa had something similar installed on his car 15 years ago. Less then a year later a deer ran straight in to his passenger side door totaling his car. Pretty ironic. Needless to say he no longer uses such a product. | ||

I tried putting some on mine, on the headlight housing. But whatever adhesive they used ate into the bike's plastic and they fell off. I haven't put them back on. And, like Dr. Greg, I haven't hit one since. Maybe I'll try those little bells the cruiser guys hang from their panniers. | ||

My wife gave me one of those little "angel bells" for Christmas. Supposed to scare off the little gnomes that mess up your bike or some sh** like that. I went ahead and put it on since she also bought me the bike. My buddies think it's funny that my bike jingles now. | ||

I know, this is not based on Science. When my Dad was the manager of a local township they put these on all the police cars. Deer strikes went down 50% and stayed down year after year. My consulting job had me working out in the sticks of PA for a month. From my hotel to the work location was 40 miles one way up thorough the mountains of PA. Almost every day I had to slow down for a deer that walked out in front of me. I threw a pair of these on my pickup, and noticed MOST of the deer would now stop and look at my truck (yes, most stopped in the middle of the road to look at my truck). For $5, I stuck a pair of them on mine Uly the same location (using the sticky pads that came on them). If it prevents me from hitting one deer, they paid for themselves. Plus it makes for conversation when people see them. They always feel inclined to tell that they don't work. but if everyone used them the Deer go back to ignoring the noise. | ||

Mikey, I see a problem. Since the air has to pass through them to make the whistling noise, will that noise not be lost inside the scoops?  I mean they don't work like a horn by blowing noise out the front. | ||

The noise will be produced and traveling out the back inside the scoop where the sound waves will be absorbed into the noises of the engine. Little of the sound will escape the scoop. Doppler effect. | ||

If they do make a high pitch noise that humans cannot hear, what if you mounted them backwards? Would it a deep noise that would call whales or moose in for mating?  |
