Does anyone have pictures that they would be willing to post of the medium or the large palmer windshield mounted on an XT? I am interested in purchasing a larger windshield for my XT but I would like to see how they look so I can decide which size to buy. I currently have the Palmer brackets and stock 08XT windshield. The brackets work great and are a very nice product. I just need a little more coverage, mostly in height. I am concerned that the large Palmer shield might just look a little too big? Motorbike...when you go bigger even with Palmer brackets the air comes in harder down lower...hits the frame and comes up shaking your helmet. Every action has a reaction. Seems to me either be in the wind or have an Ettenuelly shield (monster shield). | ||

will this work for ya. not really sure which one it is but it works great. maybe a little wider would be good though. before i got it i had to take the other windsceens off(stock and standard windscreen were tried) cause the tubulance was terrible. no vibration in the helmet what so ever for me at 5'8" on the xt. now the only thing i don't know about is vibration when i get it up to 100 and i don't know if it's because of the balancing beads that are in the wheels when i put new michilins pilot 2's on or the windscreen. never noticed the vibration before i changed the tires. can't really think that it would be the tires cause i have the same thing on the m2 and it rides fine. Thanks for the replies so far. Anyone else have pictures? Eulysses, I am thinking of buying a larger shield to mount to my brackets and raise it to a height where I can just see over the top when looking a short distance down the road. My stock shield is about 2 inches too low for that, even at the highest setting. Thanks for the tip though. Nevrenuf, I am guessing you have the large Palmer shield. From what I understand, the medium shield is only slightly larger than my stock XT shield. For those with the Palmer shields, do you notice any difference in scratch resistance compared to stock? I know the factory shields are made of Lexan as opposed to the Palmers, which are made of acrylic ( Plexiglas ). Also, does the Plamer shield have the very slight forward curve at the top, like the stock XT or is it just flat all the way from bottom to top? Thanks guys. | ||

mines flat all the way through. mines dirty most of the time so i don't really pay attention to whether it's scratched or not. i can see right above the top and only get a tiny bit of air in between at the bracket. | ||

Bigger windshields will then expose the next problem - air coming from lower, funneling over the airbox cover and then up onto the chest. The result is lots of noise. The solution is a set of lowers. I did the $10 modification. Went and bought a sheet of lexan at Lowes, cut it in half. Got about 24 inches of aluminum flat stock and mounted the flat stock across the forks. Screwed the lexan to the flat stock near the bottom and then put some hose clamps around the top of the fork tubes and rested the top of the lexan on the hose clamp screws. Works like a champ. I was using the big ass tank bag to perform the same function, but the lowers actually do a better job of controlling the air flow. There is a more detailed write up on Badweb somewhere with pictures on how to mount it all together. But if you can not find it, let me know and I will take some pictures. My workmanship sucks - I am a software guy - but it definetly solves the last problem. I use the Buell Tall Windshield (currently with the Palmer Brackets) - 6'2" |
