After the insurance company bought my Cyclone 3 years ago I finally bought a Uly to replace it. It's a 2006 in the faster black color. Got it last fall so only have about 300 miles on it since I got it. Ready to start riding now that it is warming up pass 70 degrees, yes I am a wimp in cool weather. | ||

you know I didn't want to ride in cold weather before that much until I got the uly. Now I'm riding in 30 degree temps and it's not bad at all! The heated grips and big windshield on my bike make it very comfortable. And the motor is lovin this cold temperature to. | ||

Xbeau I will be happy riding when it is 110 degrees in the summer, well that is a little warm. Got to get the comfort kit installed. | ||

Now that I live in Houston, TX, I almost never ride in the summer. I hope my comfort kit comes in soon (been on backorder since December) so I can enjoy the last six to eight weeks or so of bearable weather. My riding season will be wrapping up soon while everyone else is just getting started.  | ||

The humidity here is a lot drier than in Houston. I have mesh riding gear that works well as long as I am moving. | ||

I ride year round. In the teens most mornings during the winter, summer is in the high 90's but dry. I haven't ridden the Uly in the summer yet, just got it in November. Winter riding is a breeze, I dress for it so it's no big deal. | ||

I tend to ride all year 'round, too. It bottoms out a few times each winter in the low to mid thirties, but mostly stays in the forties. Summers are a little warmer, we top out around 107-110, with roughly 100 days over 100 degrees F each year. Normally pretty dry, though, except for July-August and January-February most years. Summers I use a mesh jacket and sometimes one of the Evapo-vests. Winters see me in lined leather or textile jackets w/ Gerbings glove liners. | ||

We get a lot 100 degree days here during the summer. During the winter it can get below 32 but not very often. I will ride during the winter if the sun is out. | ||

Buewulf, don't get your hopes up about that comfort kit. Put mine on and although the fan runs less, the bike is just as uncomfortable (HOT) as before-maybe even a little worse. Worse because tank gets hotter after shut down (residual heat)and you can actually hear the fuel boil, and I've never ridden in summer-yet. My next step is heat shielding lining the frame and ceramic coating of headers. If that doesn't work, then I'm sell the thing. | ||

The humidity here is a lot drier than in Houston. Yeah, I used to live in Colorado. The climate was very arid, so I had no trouble handling the hottest days of summer there. Houston is a whole different story. The humidity is crippling, though I have to say that probably even more deterring than the heat and humidity are the masses of bugs that can make riding particularly annoying in the mornings and late afternoons. I ordered my comfort kit and they had it in one week and that was last month! Make Sure the ordered the right one. Is there more than one comfort kit? The part number I gave them was M1907.1AK which according to their description was "Rider Comfort Kit for XB12X/XT with non-cat exhaust". I ordered the comfort kit and several maintenance items from Chicago HD (referred to me by a local Buell rider). Got everything right away except the comfort kit. | ||

Chicago is notorious for multi month backorders. You get what you pay for with them. I had my comfort kit in a few days from Badweb sponsor Precision HD. | ||

don't get your hopes up about that comfort kit. My primary issue with the engine heat is that I am concerned about the engine grenading. The bike runs much too hot when pushed in my opinion or even when droning along at faster highway speeds for extended stretches. This is especially troubling because I've only had the bike since late September and havn't ridden it on a day where temps were over 75 degrees. As far as comfort goes, I actually never had an issue with the heat (only ridden in mild to cold temps too, though) until I recently put a "low" seat on the bike. The original sky-scaperesque seat fits perfectly against the frame, where as the "low" seat leaves a large gap between the seat pan and frame on the right side exposing the cylinder head. I think this is where most of the heat is coming from, not to mention I am also now a lot closer to the heat with the low seat. The heat isn't too bothersome at this point, just noticeable. That may change as the temps warm up. It will be close to 80 degrees tomorrow, so I will probably get a good evaluation. (Sorry, didn't mean to jack this thread.) | ||

Buewulf I haven't read many threads about these engines grenading so I wouldn't be too worried about that. They are pretty bulletproof, hell it's a lawn mower motor on steroids, they run like champs and have very little maintenance. Are you using Synthetic Oil? Harley states their synthetic makes the motors run on average 15 degrees cooler than conventional oil. That may be an option to get the temp down if you aren't already utilizing it. | ||

I do use synthetic. I may be worried for nothing, but the Briggs & Stratton on my mower doesn't run nearly this hot.  They have been using the engine long enough without much issue apparently, so the motor will probably survive the heat. But an extra scoop can't hurt! | ||

I wouldn't worry about the heat, I have ran 4 Buells around in the Florida humidity for the past 10 years with no overheating at all. Even while idling through beach towns not even a skip spark. | ||

I had a Cyclone and a Sportster running in 105 degree heat with no problems, just had to remember at stop lights to hold the bike up with the right leg. Ran syn in Cyclone and dino in Sportster. | ||

I did a heat test once. 06 Uly 2 up outside temp 80F. Ran for 90 miles at 100-105 mph. Engine oil got all the way up to 190F. Not at all hot. You feel the heat because the Ulysses is so good at shedding it. | ||

yea... gee thanks for bumping it up again... lol. I just hope I don't get caught humming the tune out loud in pubic. Might be a good cross campaign for Band-Aid's and Harley's. Bunch of dirty scruffy bikers singing to their boo-boo's! My fav temps are 50-75 deg. I like to waer protective gear. But I ride in any temp. Do you wear any protective gear when it's 110 degs out? | ||

I’m back on a Ulysses. I had a 2006 and traded it on a 2007 1125R. I really like the 1125R but REALLY missed the Uly. So I was going to wait and buy a new Uly in 2010 or 2011 but after hearing about the closing I had to jump in and buy a new Ulysses before they were all gone. So I picked up new a Orange 2009 in Dec. I also bought Blue Bodywork ‘cause I thought it looked good. But when I opened up the box and looked at the Blue I didn’t like that shade of Blue. I think the internet pictures look different. I just ordered 2010 Yellow Bodywork and that’s what I’m going with. I will be posting the Thrust Blue Air Box Cover and Windscreen in the classified section soon. | ||
