In my last thread on OIL , all the welcome comments were appreciated. I called thge HD shop near by and asked about their oil filter pricing. I got 3 oil filters for $20 bucks. The Puralator filters were more money than the HD dealer wanted for the Buell Black filters. So I just went and did 3 of them at once. I went with the Shell Rotella T because it was 15w-40w and since it was only $13 bucks a gallon I just went that way. It meets all the manuals CF-4 CG-4 CH-4 & CI-4 ratings. I plan on changing out the oil every 1500 miles anyway so what the hell! I stayed away from the Rotella T5 Blended synthetic since it was only a 10w-40w and did not have the C ratings listed. The 10w-30w was offered but I chose to not go that route. Also stayed away from the Rotella T6 due to the 5w-40w numbers. It did meet the Ci number required by the book but not the correct wt. I know I am being anal but while the bike is in warranty I will use whats in the book to be safe. I guess I will have to see what the summer will bring. I figger I am ok with the 40wt till it gets over 95 outside. Thanks for all the help and comments. BDRAG |

New observation after the new oil. I went for a short ride to get it warmed up to check the oil level. Rode around for 15 or 20 minutes in town. Upon returning NO FAN running when I cut off the motor. HUH? So I rode around the block at very slow speeds as if in traffic and returned home. The fan came on this time like it has every time since October when I bought it. But this time it went off after about 30 seconds instead of then usual 5 or so minutes. Does this mean the motor likes the new oil much better than the HD oil? I think so. Less friction, no heat, no fan. BDRAG |
