hi all, if everything goes according to plan my friend Chris and I will ride out Uly from the UK to the top of Europe - the Nordkapp more than 71 degrees North! see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordkapp I have done some initial planning of the route and it would see us take a freight ferry (DFDS offers spaces & cabins onboard their freight vessels as the original UK to Norway ferry services stopped a couple of years ago...)for one leg of the trip and the return via Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium & France back to the UK. total miles will be about 4000 and we will allow 2 weeks or maybe even 2.5 weeks... We will take tents etc or stay in cheapish cabins which are dotted all along the Arctic Highway here is a map of the proposed routes.
thats it for now. i may head up to meet Chris next week in Scotland - where he lives - to do more detailed planning... Has anyone from here been up there before??? if so please let me know your experience... thx Lars |

I've worked in the arctic circle in Finland but only doing cold climate testing, so nothing i know will really help ,plus it was a long time ago. I think some friends used DFDS to get to Denmark from harwich last year ,they were not impressed. We went from Harwich to hook of holland when we rode to Hamburg harley days, ferry was operated by Stenna ( again not good ) but you could use that route and ride across Holland into Germany then into Denmark. sounds like an interesting trip, Scandanavia is going to be expensive, but i've no doubt Gordon Brown will have fixed the weak £ by the time you go |

Hi Lars Young young a mate & I went by train half way up Norway. I remember the amazing scenery and high cost of beer and the impossibility of scoring hashish. Another friend went to Nordkapp. He grew a moustache. It didn't suit him. I think he is still in Denmark - where ginger/blonde mooostaches are legal (at weekends). Don't do it - its not worth it |

oh oh - Take loads of bear repellent ! and a very big gun. Norwegian bears hate Buells and are very attracted to chubby Brits. They also blame Erik for diverting attention away from their plight. Fekin bears |
