Myzen-Where did you get the little wind things on the forks and do they work? |

Looks great, Beemer! Very nice. What kind of shield is that? How far below eye level is it? Any bad wind noise or head buffeting? Ths. |

Pso, those are the Memphis Shades deflectors. I had to do a little surgery with the grinder to make them fit. I do think they work well. I got them from Dennis Kirk. The fork clamps are the ones for a VTX and the deflectors are the "universal" ones. All told, I think total cost was around $65.00 |

Wing thing MEP 5810 and wing thing mount MEM 9890. Just ordered myself. Looks OEM...could built something first then ordered these...thought I would just skip the hours of creativity. This time anyway! |

Myzen - "those are the Memphis Shades deflectors....I do think they work well." Myzen, did you fit these before or after adding the laminar lip/did you only feel you needed them after adding it? I've got the regular Uly shield and I'm wondering if the deflectors will help in cutting down noise (not a big problem but quieter is always better). Anyone else got comments and experience using the deflectors with the regular height Uly shield? Jesse |

Sorry, meant to get back sooner, those are memphis shade lowers, take away about 80% of the updraft and very stable at speed.Don't know about price got them used with the Palmer Brkts. The shield is a large with a light tint from Palmer also works nicely. The bike also has Tourtech handguard ext, very nice in the rain & cold ,Precision Eng 1" risers and Aprilia Mirrors. This winter better lights, seat and Rox 2" Risers hopefully will be added. I've only had this bike since Aug so far its been great. This week it goes in for the 5000 mile service.I did have the comfort kit installed at 1000 mile service and use all synthetic oil,no problems at all, other than my Electra Glide seems to sit a lot! |

Jessemc I added them both at the same time from recommendations from other ULY owners here on this board. I added both the lip and lowers just before going on my trip this past summer. I do feel they (the combination of both) made a huge difference with the turbulence. On my recent trip this past week, I was cruising along on the highway and moved my hand around in front of me to identify where wind was coming it from. I identified a very smooth cockpit area and the air that was being deflected from the lip was hitting me at the top of my helmet. I did not feel any air coming up from the bottom front. There was some between the mirrors and the windshield. In my opinion, both work well. It is still noisier than on my FJR or Road Glide but I just wear ear plugs or use ear buds. Then it is a non issue. Hope this helps. |

Myzen - "....there was some between the mirrors and the windshield....Hope this helps." Very helpful, thanks! I'm not experiencing a lot of turbulence but I do need to feel out what is causing the turbulence and noise that does exist, thanks for the pointers on how you identified the areas. Your comment on the mirrors is interesting. Someone posted here recently that replacing the mirrors with bar end ones can get rid of a lot of noise/turbulence often associated with the windshield. Beemer, I like the fact that you have a TJ, a JK(is it the Unlimited?) and the XT. I have a JK unlimited and a Uly XP. |

Myzen, Did you 'angle' cut the bottom of those lowers? The ones I see from Memphis Shades are squared off at the bottom. If you trimmed them, did you try them before trimming? Any difference? They look good. Ths. |

Buellerxt, yes I did trim them. When the bars were at full lock the lowers would touch the scoops. To alleviate that, I angled them. I just used a sharpie to mark where they wouldn't touch and then cut them off with my grinder. I then used a file to clean up the edges. |

Guess I should have looked closer. I must have mine mounted higher on the fork leg, since I have good clearance on both scoops. The only fitting I did was on the sides where the deflectors meet the casting for the turn signal/flyscreen mount. |

Dio, I think the bracket can be mounted up or down. If they were facing up, then clearance probably isn't an issue. I figured that out after I had already cut them. |

Hmmm...why would the XT be any different from the X? Other than tube size? I just put my shades on this weekend and ran the clamp at the top (just under the top triple tree). Had to cut out a little curve for the aluminum housing just behind the signal lights to get the shades far enough forward not to hit the frame or left scoop top. I also ran the clamp screw in from the back so threads are forward. I just studied the threads on this in BWB archives. BWB is just such a relief to this orphaned Uly owner! |
