Some of you may remember that my rear left bearing seized at 6000 miles on a ride November 8, 2009.

At the time I assumed that I had the black bearings, however I can confirm that my 2009 had the Orange bearings.

According to the dealer the swingarm, rear brakes, axel and wheel are damaged and need to be replaced.

I have asked to be upgraded to the 2010 wheel and the first response was no.
The black bearings are considered an upgrade.

Well I don't take no for an answer and come hell or high water I'm getting that 2010 wheel. I've asked the dealer to go to bat for me with Deeley Canada. We shall see.

If I get a second no, then I'm going to contact Deeley Canada (the cartel the controls HD in Canada) myself.
I'll let you all know.

IIRC there was a post not too long ago about a failed rear wheel bearing that got the 2010 rear wheel as a replacement under warranty.

Update,
Dealer says yesterday the part number for the Kit was not in his system today it is.

He will have some news for me on Tuesday as it's turkey weekend in the US.
Looks like good news and that I may get my upgrade through warranty.
I have offered to pay for the install kit if they pay for the wheel.

Here is my 07 RS bearing. I don't like the looks of the surface rust (LS has no rust).
If I have to pull the wheel off to inspect it, I'm just going to replace them because I would already be 1/2 way there.
I still have riding to do (Sunday).

I have the same surface rust on mine -- is this normal?

Mine had no surface rust just prior to failure

Some surface rust is normal. That portion of the bearing is unplated, unpainted carbon steel.

If you see streaks of rust coming out of the seal and radially away from the axle, that's a sign of impending bearing failure.

The water got into mine so badly that pushing on the side of the seals squeezed out a drop or two!

I rode all day in a summer heavy rain.
No stream crossings or other stupid stuff.

You should take the time to coat the outside of your bearings with Permatex Anti-Seize and it will protect your bearings quite well from water. You don't even have to remove anything, just brush it on around the outside of your bearing until you have a good coat with overlap outside the O.D. of the bearing. If you don't do this you'll get the rust and moisture working its way from outside into your bearings. I've ridden in plenty of rain. In fact, for hundreds of miles on the way home from 09' Homecoming and the Permatex did its job. Sure, some have stories that water got in from somewhere else but at least it will guard that entry point quite well. Besides, if you aren't using anti-seize on your axles then you will really have problems. Hate to be a broken record but this info has been being posted for some time. Even sealed bearings fail so you have to do some preventative maintenance to help the bearing last longer.

GREAT NEWS

I just got off the telephone with my dealer.

He says that during the time I damaged my bearing and this week, Buell has changed the 2010 wheel/bearing kit to an official fix/repair for seized bearings.

So that means the entire upgrade repair will be covered by warranty

It may take some time for the parts to come in (like a month) but good news none the less

American Sport Bike has a set...and will install the bearings. I guess you have to wait on the corp...unless the dealer would buy one from American Sport Bike for you and take the warrentee one into stock for next Buell down.

I can hear the floodgates opening

Yes, seizures may be on the rise?

American Sport Bike has a set...

Now that would be too much to ask.
Besides winter is setting in here so no rush.

One important thing I forgot to mention.

I probably would not have gotten the result that I did without the information from the contributors to this board.

When I approached my dealer with the upgrade request, I did so with the drawing and part numbers, along with the knowledge that this had been done before.

So thanks very much
