So the HD dealer "washed" my bike during the 1k service and some moron managed to get water up under the front windscreen fairing. And I use the term washed loosely, more like they sprayed my bike down with a hose WTF, I had water on my legs coming out from under the seat. On my ride home my headlights blinked on and off a few times. When I got home there was water on and in the connector between the factory harness and the headlight, I blew it all out to dry it out and I thought it was ok but alas the problem returned. Yesterday I opened it up, sprayed electric terminal cleaner in there (alcohol based cleaner of some sort) then used dielectric grease on it and thought it was good, but today I had them cut out again. When I was in there, I did see what appeared to be a darker color on the gold looking connector however. Do I need to get in there with some sort of wire brush and get it all off and redo the clean/grease thing? |

It's weird, all the connectors under there are waterproof style except the headlight, wtf? Anyway, called up the HD dealer, the service guy was actually really cool said bring it in, we'll just replace the whole connector. |

Get a dental pick. You can release the electrical contact pins from the connector housing, pull them out, clean them and reinstall them. If you look closely at the pins, there is one side of them that has a little "archway" - that's where the pick goes, to depress the locking tab. Pick from the connection side, pull wires backwards away from the pick. |

Ratbuell: Two thumbs up thx man, I pulled it apart myself, cleaned it up nice and good, bent the tensioners in a little more, snapped it back together and presto good connection again even with wire jiggling. |
