The odds are higher that soccer mom in the SUV will do it first.

You just need the stuff to mount the sprocket and rotor to the new wheel, as they are 1 time use. Stolen from Court's thread:
Part No. | Description | # Required | Total Cost | | 6400HB | Washer | 6 | 5.40 | | AA0609.11CXZB | Screw - GR8 - 3/8-16X1-1/8 | 6 | 18.89 | | CA0005.9A7 | Screw - 5/16 Brake Rotor | 6 | 10.80 |

Thanks Froggy, I just went back and re-read that portion of Court's thread and was going to ask if those screws are the ones that attach the rotor and pulley/sprocket. Thanks a lot and it was sure good to see they make the wheel kit with the black wheel. Ths. |

The BLACK wheel is NOT the X wheel is it? Be sure to use new hardware. I have ALL 2010 manuals, shop, owner, service and diagnostic, if you have questions. |

Court- could you post the info on torquing the axle if it's different from 2006-2009 and especially on the process for replacing a belt with the 2010 wheel? The wide shoulder at the sprocket end of the new axle is twice as wide as 2006-2009 arrangement. It seems like we'll have to loosen it more than 25 turns to get the axle past the wide portion to relieve tension from the belt. It also seems like this may preclude a roadside/on-both-wheels belt change as well, as the threads may completely disengage the swingarm once the axle is loosened enough to get past the shoulder. I'm very interested to see what the shop manual says about it. |

Nor do I...but it's because of the soccermom, not the bearings. No joke! While I am not a big fan of the design of the wheel bearings, the problem is manageable. Soccer mommed SUVs on the other hand.... |

it's because of the soccermom, not the bearings. I'll second that. There isn't much in the way of preventative maintenance one can do to mitigate the idiocy of others. |

Which black is the XT wheel? Villian or Pirahna? |

Rwven, I believe, am 'almost' sure but not quite, that it is Villian. I believe the 08', 09', and 10's are Villian Black wheels. Can anyone confirm? Ths. (Message edited by BuellerXT on November 10, 2009) |

Yes Villain is the most common black, and is what your wheels are. Piranha is the more textured black that the 2010 frames use, and the 1125CR rims. |

Froggy, I had a big dealer tell me today that they called Harley on the Villian Wheel Kit and were told that it won't be available until January. In the meantime, they were told, the wheel and individual parts can be ordered. Is that what you have heard? |

I haven't heard anything, nor can I check, I don't work for a dealer and don't have access to the parts systems. There is where I step down, and let the "Pros" take over |

Ths. Froggy. It is probably correct. The dealer is a reputable one. Just curious. I can wait and besides, my bike is running GREAT! Okay, here is a tough one. I know there are tons of threads on the bearing problem but is there one that pin points the main problems? For example, do bikes ridden in dry weather, only on asphalt, and never have water sprayed toward the bearings, fail? I'm just curious whether some go 50,000+ miles w/o a rear wheel bearing failure and if there are, have they have been analyzed for conditions, etc. Ths. Some have done 50k without issues, some don't even get 5k. No real link was found, but it seems riding in the rain doesn't help with bearing life. |

For those of you that have had bearing failures could you give us that have not a rundown on what to look for, and what happens when it fails. Thx |

Mine failed at the end of a day long ride, earlier in the day I had heard a few squeaks, but they seemed to go away. I examined the bearings and could not see any damage, and could not feel any heat. When the bearing finally did seize the bike became unrideable. The front end was shaking and the the whole bike felt really unstable. The bearing now had disintigrated and was obvious with a quick visual inspection |

How many miles, Pete? Had the bike seen a lot of heavy rains, high pressure washes, etc? I don't head out in the rain locally but do get caught in it sometimes. I take a couple long rides (4000 miles ish) each year and sometimes ride through heavy rains then. I never power wash or stream cross. The vast majority of my riding is on dry asphalt. Trying to decide on a wheel replacement. Ths. |
