My primary seem to have loosened up a bunch since the 10k(now 16k), so I took the time and adjusted it today, a bit on the tighter side, and am pleased with the results-less overall engine noise, smoother running, etc. It seems though, a new, or previously buried noise has shown its head. It sounds like a whirring down by the clutch basket. It happens in gear or out, clutch in or out, follows engine speed, and shows up after a few miles. It is not loud, nor obvious to anyone but me. Any ideas?

mine does that as well... been that way for a while... I stopped worrying about it.
Pretty sure mine started when I adjusted the primary as well.

Loosen the Primary Chain a bit and it should all but disapear.

Sounds like the chain is too tight. Did you check it (tension) in different places? There are loose and tight spots. Make sure you find the tightest spot and adjust it there.

Not an easy thing to do; but absolutely correct. Whirring sound is not good; last thing you want is the input shaft bearing to grenade.

Folks here have posted that the chain always has two tight spots, and that once you find them, you can mark them with paint or permanent marker (after cleaning oil off that spot). This would make future adjustments much less time-consuming.

I adjusted it again the other day, and set it to the looser end of the spectrum-1/2' free play. The slight whirring noise is still there, as is the 'new, quieter' engine. So I figure its good as is. May just have been something the old noises were covering up.
