Hello - I've been in the sport-tourer bike market for a little while now... Had a Ducati ST2 that I loved but had to leave behind (long story). Need a comfortable long distance bike that can haul some luggage. Wouldn't mind a bike that has some limited ability to go off pavement. I had been looking for a good used Uly or Triumph Tiger, but now with the liquidation sale I think I'm going to go ahead and get a new Uly (assuming I can find a dealer to match the OTD pricing members have been listing here). From what I can tell looking through the forum, 2010 models will be hard to come by. A few questions: 1. Only difference I can see people discussing on 2010 models is the wheel bearings. Any other differences? 2. Any significant differences between the '08 and '09 model year? 3. Other than the thinner panniers, any difference between the XT and the XTP (Police version)? Thanks! - HJ |

HJ, the new wheel bearings, wheel and comfort kit are standard on the 2010 bikes. Between the 08 and 09 I am not sure if there are many differences save the later build 2009s got the black bearings. The XT does not come as a police version, I think. There is a XP and I think, but not sure, the difference is in the frame mount for the siren and the wiring in order to add the police stuff. I am not an expert on the XBs so someone else I am sure will know the correct answers. You want to trade for your Norton? (Message edited by f_skinner on November 01, 2009) |

Welcome to Badweb Hungry_jOe. 1. 2010's have the beefier rear wheel bearing arrangement, dual 02 sensors (front and rear cylinders) and come with the Rider Comfort Kit from the factory. 2. IIRC only differences in 08 and 09 are the 09's have slightly grippier footpegs and a slightly different kickstand with a longer foot. 3. There is no XTP, there's the X, the XT and the XP. The XP is the basically same as the X other than the bags. The X and XP have a taller suspension compared to the XT but have somewhat increased steering lock. Hugh |

The '08's have the silver colored engine vs the black of the '09's. |

Thanks for the quick response guys... should have double-checked my posting... I think I'm interested more in the X versus the XT. I'm 5'10" with a 32" inseam, but not too terribly worried about the higher seat on the X... So it looks like I'm in the market for an X or XP then! Thanks for the assist. Skinner not sure you want the Norton just now... she is leaking oil like the Exxon Valdez and her carbs get along with each other like Jon & Kate Gossling (which is to say not very well). Will be nice to have a sporty EFI in the stable with a Uly! Cheers, - HJ |

Hungry_joe, Don't worry about how tall you are, I am built with the same dimensions and have an 08 XT. I have no problems with it being too tall, in fact it is a perfect fit. I usually ride with my girlfriend and the bags full of goodies. The seat is hugh and feels like there are at least three comfortable seating positions, forward, middle and rearward from which I can touch the ground from. The girlfriend is worried what we are going to do when/if we wear out the Uly we have now.... |

when i get mine, it will be like the bionic man. We can rebuild the Ulysses — we have the technology. |

HJ- I think there's an XP that the dealer offered for a really good price up here in NY. If you're interested let me know and I'll give you the info and how much he offered it to me for. |

984gasm - Got to your post too late... Called about 10 dealers around here, only 2 had XB12XP's. Both were demo's, one they wanted MSRP. The other wasn't for sale yet... Ended up buying an '09 XB12X... Cheers, - HJ |

Another thing not mentioned is the 2010 models have a black frame while the 09's and earlier are gray. |

although old man huffman is a big buell fan, most of his people didn't get it. they were in the midst of getting away from buells before this happened. bought our first new one back in 99 from them and when i told them that i would eventually be looking for an ultra and asked about cutting me a deal, they told me that if they did it for me that they would have to do it for everyone so i never bought another bike from them. my buddy uses them cause a buddy of his is the service writer out there and i don't know if it's because he got a lemon 2003 ultra or because of the people working on the bike but it's been in the shop a lot more than all my bikes together. outside of the shovelhead. but if your happy with the offer, then go for it. make sure you try and get every little thing out of them that you can. if it was friday i would have come up there to meet ya. sorry for the rambling. if there's anything i can do for ya, don't hesitate. enjoy |
