I bought a nice used '08 with 2400 miles on what I've taken to calling "The Day" (15 Oct). While visiting the dealer the next week, I had them check for the latest flash because I wasn't happy with it's low rpm fueling. I wound up getting the comfort kit flash, and I can't really say that I like it. The fan runs constantly at any speed over 15 mph regardless of the temperature, and doesn't run at all after shutdown. It was even doing that on my way to work the other morning when the temp was in the low 40's! I'm not sure this is a good thing. Even worse, the dealer tells me that I can't go back to the previous flash. Thoughts? (Message edited by JSG4dFan on October 29, 2009) |

I've got the comfort flash on my 09 XT, but no comfort kit yet. I ordered it, but haven't received it yet and don't plan on installing it until the weather warms next spring. My fan has only kicked on twice after shutdown - both times in mid-50s temperature when I had been crowding the 4000 rpm break-in limit. I agree that the times the fan kicks on and off seem a bit odd, but it's nothing that worries me. Not being able to revert to a previous flash may be true. AFAIK the Uly is the only model Buell intended the comfort flash to be used with, so you may be able to talk a dealer into burning your ECM with the latest flash from another model. It should be technically possible to burn an older flash, but may be against dealer policy to do so. |

Jsg, I wish I could help you but I'm just getting started. I'm glad you asked the question though because my dealer is going to put the Comfort Kit's re-flash on my new 2008XB12XT. I thought it would be better but . . . . Ths. for asking the question. Mike |

Pkforbes, it's comforting to know that yours has kicked on after shutdown. Mine hasn't yet, so I was wondering if it ever would. But non-stop running when the ambient temp is in the mid 40's to low 50's? I'm skeptical... |

Jsg4, You could always wire a switch into the fan circuit and disable the darn thing when it bothers you. Having that fan running when it is cold out for no reason doesn't seem right to me. Since I put that comfort kit on my 06 with 23,000 miles on it, the fan has never kicked on while the bike is running and sometimes not even when I shut it off. You need to monitor your oil temp at the swingarm to see how warm your oil is getting. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/461500.html I just built one for my son's ULY a few days ago. Took a couple of hours and then overnight to setup the silicone. |

I have not put on the comfort kit yet but did the flash while doing the 1K dealer visit. I wish I had not. While smoother...it changed the grunt factor (we Uly guys love our grunt factor) to a smoother one...and I can live with it. I really notice the surging at 3 to 5K and did not before. The fan runs during the ride and not so much now after shut off unless I was riding hard. The comfort kit really cuts down on fan time all by itself...and I would just do that if there were a "next time" which is sounds like there won't be. Especially with the news that the reflash to old settings is blocked. |
