Court- I hope you're taking notes for the next book. I'm sure it's gonna be a hell of a read. |

>>>Court- I hope you're taking notes for the next book. I'm sure it's gonna be a hell of a read. It will. We started at 1:17pm Thursday when the publisher contacted us. It is in the works and I am waiting for some folks to return from Daytona to get some material and we're off and running. |

We went from shock, to anger, to purchase. The dealer we were at today had 14 when we walked in the door. By 3pm or so they had 2 left. I feel that this will actually help the H-D morons see their error-these bikes will be gone and spoken for. People WANT these machines! |

"What was the price?" 08 1125R for 4995 and an 09 XT 7995 for the wife. 9 miles on mine, 6 miles on hers. Both black. |

Damn, anyone know of a dealer with a smoking price on a CityX? I won't be back in the States until next summer but would buy one sight unseen for the wife if they could store it. |

Not exactly smoking, but Thundertower HD/Buell near Columbia, SC has a couple of CityX's advertised for $6795. (Message edited by Hughlysses on October 18, 2009) |

Well hoping to put my Uly to good use today! Our group is doing our Fall ride and potluck at Washington State Park in Missouri. Should be a nice ride. Just hoping it gets above 40 before I leave! Thank you Buell for heated hand grips and that new Rider Comfort Kit keeps the whole seat nice and warm! I stopped by Gateway Harley in St Louis yesterday (where I got my bike) and they said they have no plans abandoning Buell. The Buell tech Buzzie and I were talking about things and he said he has already been studying up on things for high mileage Buells |

Cheddarheads4erik "08 1125R for 4995 and an 09 XT 7995 for the wife. 9 miles on mine, 6 miles on hers." Congrats Cheddarheads4erik. Just wondering if they charge freight, setup and other fees, or just tax and title? Either way, you got a smoking deal. |

IP, no, there were no other charges. We paid a little more on the 1125 than Uke's had them for, but Uke's was selling out of state over the phones as well. Kutter sold locally first, and MAN did they sell. Thanks James. |

There is some talk amongst the Harley dealers that the "rebate" program from Harley for selling the existing inventory is not being applied uniformly across the country. I know its hard to believe that HD would play favorites, isn't it. |

quote:Bet Dr Greg is REAL happy about his decision to buy the "deer slayer' as a source of parts for his 'new' 06 Uly.
Yes he is! Man, out of town for a four-day camping trip (my Fall Break) and I come back to THIS! Actually on the way back I met a KTM 950 rider (Captain Jack)...hmmm, "Captain Jack meets Dr. Greg"...anyway, he said Buell had been dropped by H-D. Huh?!? After carving down the eastern flanks of the New Mexico Black Range on a bike that handles as well fully loaded as naked, I stopped for lunch at a burger joint and punched up BadWeb on the iPhone. Dang, Captain Jack WAS right! Well, I got a spare '06 Uly sittin' out back, couple spare belts, clutch cable, etc. But they say parts are gonna be available... Man, in 50 years of riding I finally find THE bike and then the company goes belly-up. To their credit, H-D probably did finance a lot of the last decade of Buell development. Like Court, I'm fascinated by the next chapter. Just so long as I get to keep my '06 Uly. --Doc |

Rwven: " ..I could get a new one for far less than I still owe on my '08. That leaves a good taste in my mouth... " So does building a business based on costs, salaries, expected service dollars per sale, MSRP pricing only to have people brag about under MSRP purchases that dealers with no service and terrible support have to sell at to move stale product forcing you to undermine your business and find that, even with world class Buell Master Techs who are race proven, you see most of your customers only for warranty work. ~jammer - in the Guilt phase |

Buyers rarely concede it, but the reality is that for every dollar you negotiate off MSRP of your new purchase amounts to about $1.20 off the value of your trade-in or existing vehicles. There are no free lunches Automotives have proven this for decades. ~jammer |

I paid MSRP (didn't shop around at all, bought it from a BadWeb advertiser) for mine because I agree with that philosophy. For all the good that did me.... |

Just like every other car, truck, or motorcycle dealership in the world! I live in a rural area, when I buy new vehicles I am forced to go out of town to get a reasonable price or stay local and get raped. Cost cutter dealerships are the new reality. I seriously could care less about the quality of the shop. Like the above statement sez "they'll only see me if I have a warranty issue". It doesn't matter if you do your own PM or have it done at jiffy lube, the dealer is out of the loop. The difference between Buells and HD's is volume. If only 1 in 10 Buells comes back to the dealer for all the service the dealer would starve to death. If 1 in 10 HD's comes in it is a much more substantial number and probably would sustain the dealership. If i hadn't bought another Buell last month I sure wouldn't buy one now. It's bad enough having to go 100 miles to a dealer. As much as I like Buells, killing the brand would have pushed me over the edge. That said I have no issue with folks "cherry picking" bikes at the bargain prices offered now. To me it'd be a fools game to pay several thousand extra just to support a dealer you like when the brand is dead anyway. JMHO YMMV (Message edited by frito on October 18, 2009) |

Judging from this quote from the September 16th Journal Sentinel article I think Erik knew the end was near. At times, Erik Buell said, he has worried that the company might be too small to survive. "Especially in this economy, I do worry about it," he said. "Who knows if the brand will survive? But if the philosophy of what we have done survives, then the brand could be absorbed and called Harley-Davidson and it wouldn't matter." That and the employment statement speaks volumes to me. Erik Buell said he didn't renew his employment contract with Harley-Davidson, although he isn't planning on retiring. It's not retiring when you get forced out. |

"It's not retiring when you get forced out" No, it's not, but many would choose to retire at that point... I hope Erik does not, and I'm glad that he said he has no plan to. |

If you think about it, the only company to rise from the ashes has been Triumph. Indian doesn't count because nobody in there right mind is going to buy a 35,000 dollar Indian in todays economy. There are 15 new Indian dealers in the US and Omaha has one of them and it could as well be a tomb. Beautiful looking bikes but the prices are out past Uranus in the Kuiper Belt. |

Harley rose from the ashes. I loved my old knucklehead and my Bonneville in the 60's/70's but my Uly...wow! I would lay odds on this one...given the economy can support buying crap we really don't need . |

I guess I'm overly optimistic, but I'm going to put off my comfort kit and fork springs purchase until spring. Maybe I'll be able to keep my money in the family. |
