I know to check when hot and right after engine shutdown. But if oil is checked after it has set, does level show high or low? |

From checking on that a few times, I would say inconsistent. |

I always check when hot with the motor running. I have found that I get the most consistent readings that way. I would always get different readings with the motor shut down. |

+1 on checking while running. Mine is consistently at the Dos XX. |

Ditto, check it while warmed up and running. |

If you gotta check them running then Buell should put a bulkhead fitted site glass on the swing arm. |

The new 1125's have a sight glass. Never any issues checking any of my Buell's with the engine off. |

----- But if oil is checked after it has set, does level show high or low? ----- ____________________________________________ If it sits for a time, the level drops much lower on mine. Seems always consistent, hot engine, not running, on sidestand. Half way up the dipstick grid. (Message edited by bcmike on October 12, 2009) |

Ya gotta check it right at shut down (at least on my 08) I turn off the key and check level within 10 sec - @ 30 sec it goes from 2XX, to not even showing on the dip stick. I think running is probably the most consistent - assume accuracy is sufficient. The difference between 2XX and bottom of dip stick is only about 4 oz out of 80 oz total capacity - so I don't stress too much about the level. |

Yes, I'm beating a dead horse, but is the 'hot and while idling' check accurate enough? Seems like recently, my oil levels have been pretty inconsistent after shutdown. While idling always seems to be at 2xx. |

If the stick is wet, don't worry about it. The 2010 manual has a new check procedure in it, I would use that on the 08+ bikes |

2xx hot at idle? You're good to go. The horse is dead, stop beating it. LOL! |
