Saw this report and recognized this as a Uly. Any clue as to who it was? http://gazetteonline.com/breaking-news/2009/09/24/ motorcycle-and-car-crash-sends-one-to-hospital |

It doesn't look like a Uly to me, maybe a Firebolt. |

Always a sad sight regardless of the make and model. Did you catch the inane commentary below the article? |

Yup, especially the part of "a bike like that" always goes too fast anyway so it was the biker's fault. |

I wish I hadn't read those comments. It nearly ruined my morning. Who are these people? What do they get from typing their little snipes into the ether? At least on this site it's a conversation with people who share a common interest. I'm routinely riled up when I listen to the radio traffic updates on my commute. Whenever there's an accident that involves a motorcycle, the reporter almost always seems to include that detail. "The Inner Loop of the Beltway is jammed at Georgia Avenue due to an accident involving a motorcycle." What's the point of that except for a subliminal "tsk tsk tsk" that so many non-riders have. Almost a "Yep, sad, but...motorcycles are so dangerous...it's not surprising. People should know better." I also have a feeling it adds a bit of macabre to the report, helping listeners imagine the supposed carnage. It does not add to the traffic report one bit. Okay, I know I need to avoid the Beltway at Georgia Avenue, but what's the point of telling me that a rider went down?! Riddle me that! In the same vein (man, I'm riled up this morning), you often hear traffic reporters mention the make of the car if it's a luxury brand, but never if it's some clunker: "Randolph Road at Rockville Pike is slow due to an accident involving a truck and a Mercedes." Ride safe, everyone. |

That's is sad. But, motorcycles 'are' inherently more dangerous than automobiles, trucks or buses. And all the ATGATT in the world won't change or nullify that fact. People that can't accept the added risk, shouldn't, and probably don't, ride. I hope the guy is okay. . |

Did you catch the inane commentary below the article? YES! some idiots always believe it's the motorcycle that causes all the driving problems. Usually the ones who are talking on their cell phones while driving there cages. |

I grew up 25 miles south of CR in Iowa City. Here is the comment from a guy that was there when it happened: I happen to be right in front of the motorcycle prior to the crash. I stood by the mans side and talked to him until help arrived. This is what happened... I was headed west on Mt.Vernon Rd. had slowed and just had turned right onto East post Rd. I heard the loud crash as if I was the one that got hit.. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a white Buick stopped in intersection and a motorcycle under the front. About 20 feet away was the rider. A lady and myself ran over to check on biker and make sure he didnt move. The lady that hit him was in shock looked to be in her 70's and was shaking. Looking back I really dont know if she even knew what happened. She stayed in her car with the window up. At one point she even moved her car forward (onto the bike more) before she was screamed at to stop. I have a bigger F-350 and she just didnt see his bike behind me. He was NOT speeding infact he was prob going under the limit due to me turning. Hope hes ok. Been thinking about him and praying for him. |

A good reason to stay away from big trucks. If I can't pass em, I am backing way off them. Crap happens though, no matter how cautious you try to be. I hope the motorcyclist fully recovers and is riding a Buell soon. |

I also have a feeling it adds a bit of macabre to the report... Exactly. Violence, hyperbole and sensationalism sells. |
