That axle is a thing of beauty!
Is the wheel the same color as the 06 stock ones? It looks like it has a gold tint [on my screen].

Interesting, Firefox 3.5.2 does not display the pictures Court posted. Safari 4.0.3 does display the pictures. I must have something turned off in Firefox. Fortunately, Ladies on Motorcycles seems to be displaying fine.

There are several lines of space there between your comments but no images when viewed in Firefox.

Plenty of other images post fine it.

It may be some conflict between the method of posting. Firefox blocks popups but I can't see that being the issue here.

Your image post on the new rear wheel shows a bit of HTML coding but no more..

Is there any difference between XT wheels and the 1125/standard XB wheels? If not, then that would be the route to take to upgrade an XT as the 1125 also is now equipped with the triple bearing setup as well, isn't it?

It's my understanding - and I need to check the parts books to be sure - that the ONLY bikes that receive the 3 bearing wheel are the Ulysses series.

We were slammed at work today, I didn't have a chance to look in the parts books today to see if the XT has a new wheel setup. Technically...an XT wheel is the same as an 1125 wheel, just turned around. And the same as a "normal" XB. The X is the only one that has the strengthening strip.

Rat - I'll second that statement. I stopped by your place today on the way home from PA and was surprised at the number of people and bikes there. First dealer I've ever been at where I wasn't the only Buell parked outside. The dealerships by me would kill for that type of traffic in the showroom.

FWIW, I didn't look super close at the new XT you have on the floor, but I did notice it had a black colored axle like the new X's do.

Dirt - sorry I didn't get to say hi. Today was a good day for Buellers...started with a gorgeous blue S3T, then a very clean 97 M2 in black, then Cindy (supafast) came by on her XB and terpbueller came in and demo'd an 1125cr and 1125R. All that on top of delivering a CVO Fatbob, demo-ing a couple HD's, and hearing EVERYbody talk about what a great day it was for riding. Grrr. : )

Yes, the XT does have the new axle...just not sure about the 1125 family. I have a tech document at work (couple, actually), and I seem to recall that the X/XT are the only ones with the bearing change. I'll doublecheck.

I seem to recall that the X/XT are the only ones with the bearing change.

My belief is that it's across the board. All 2010 rear wheels are tri-bearing.

But of course I'd like to hear from someone armed with facts,

With regard to seemingly over priced tire change costs at a Buell dealership; the small volume of sport tires a typical Buell dealership goes through, coupled with the plethora of choices out there make it difficult to inventory each and every preference found on these forums. Also, not every tire distributor gives whole sale pricing the same.

eg. When a certain tire is desired, it can be ordered, but cost may be nearly retail. Inventory turns, cash flow and the cost of money dictate most dealer mark ups. De4alers will tend to stock OEM brands, and most popular tires that sell.

As for the labor to remove the assembly, dismount, remount, balance and reinstall the tires; some here have claimed some high amounts that would make me pause. On the other end, our dealership has fixed many a bargain mount/install job.

If you want to save $80 at the risk of erroneous work potentially damaging your tire, wheel, bike or person, it is a free country just like it ones choice to wear leather vests, DILLIGAF patches and dew rags.

We'll be around to fix things when they go wrong. Just try and save the whine about our labor rates for your ADV or BWB posts.

Court-Can you tell me more about the install of the bearings. Is it a straightforward job (put in freezer and leave wheel out in sun then insert bearings)or special tools required etc? thanks

I have a question about this new wheel.....does it have any sort of vent or method of disposing of moisture accumulations?

I never saw any evidence of water passing through my seals, I had the axle to bearing fit-ment sealed, and the outside of the bearing/seal surfaces coated with anti-sieze, but the hub was loaded with water. I believe it got there through condensation with no way for it to escape.

Well, various pages on the 2010 new model changes book have various answers...and the '10 parts books show both the 2 bearing and 3 bearing setups, both 1125 and XB. I want to see bikes in person first before declaring one way or another which bikes got the new wheel setup.

Dirt - your S3T is gorgeous. I've never seen PMs look that good - they looked brand new! Makin' me realize how much I need to wash my poor S2 these days.....lol

Does anyone have a copy of the instruction sheet for the wheel kit that they can post or link to? I was going to wait to install the new wheel until this winter, but I'm doing it now because my second set of wheel bearings died in my local dealers parking lot (better location than the first, on the freeway miles from anything). I'm the first kit they are installing, and they'd like to look at the instructions ahead of time. They tell me they can't access the instructions online like they can with most parts.

BTW, Court, thanks for posting the pictures of your kit. I sent a link to this thread to the dealer so they could see what the heck I was talking about when I gave them the part no. They had no idea it existed.

I've not yet seen an instruction sheet, but you should be able to install the hub spacer and the bearings into the wheel per typical service manual type procedure.

Then remove the existing wheel from the bike (after having removed all guards, covers and such).

Cannibalize the tire, brake disk, and sprocket for use on the new wheel.

Mount tire first so it will protect the new rims against damage then mount the brake and sprocket.

Then mount the new wheel onto the bike as always but using the new (lubricated) rear axle.

Reinstall all the guards, covers and the belt.

Let me know if I missed anything.
