Got home from a ride yesterday, shut the bike off and the fan came on as usual but only ran a few seconds then quit. Didnt have time to look at it, but when I started her up to go to work today I have a CEL. Is it time to replace the fan, or is it possible it could be a fuse or relay ? Read some posts but didnt really find an answer. Thanks for any help !

Try listening to the fan and see if it sounds slightly different from usual, or hear a bit of a rattling noise, if you hear a little rattle, then it's on it's way out, insist to the dealer, mine was making a little rattling noise and the dealer said it was ok, 500k miles later the fan was even worse, then they decided to change it.

Mine made a rattleing sound but I did not gett 500 miles out of it before it crapped out in NY. Easy replacement. I also used a simple jumper wire (somewhere on here is the place to hook up a simple wire and how to count the flashes) and checked the cell code and it indicated by flashes that it was the fan giving the CEL.

I can't listen to the fan because it quit running altogether. Did not make any weird noises at all, that is why I am hoping it is just a fuse or relay. If I need one, where is the best place to get it ? American Sportbikes ? Thank You

Check the fuse first, if it blew, get a handful of spares to help you troubleshoot, it could be a rubbed wire/short. Also could be a gasket leak that ruined the fan with oil spray.

American Sport Bike or other board sponsor is your best bet for a fan should your local dealer not have one handy.

Good luck!

Fuse was blown. Replaced it and went for a ride. Shut bike off and the fan ran for a second and blew fuse again. Any thoughts ?
