all I can say is holy sh*t. I was on my XT traveling to work yesterday. Headed down the x-way on the last stretch before I get to work. Traffic is moderately heavy but moving right along. All of a sudden something flashes in front of my eyes and ***WACK*** I get hit in the head. Hard!! I look in my rearview mirror and I see this object flipping through the air behind me. I get my eyes back on the road to my front and notice YIKES my windshield is gone!!! That thing flippig through the air is/was my windshield. It flew over and almost hit the pickup behind me. I dont know what happened to it after that. I hope no damage was done. I went back over the route and found it after work. The thing is in one piece but beat to hell. I wonder what the local dealer will say when I go in to make my warrenty clain. Either way, I am thinking of reporting this to the NHTSA. No way, something like this should ever happen. A couple of inches or so lower and I would have caught it in the face shield. A couple of feet lower and the truck behind me would have caught it in the windshield. Yankee Dog |

There was a recall on those for the lower mount. They added bolts instead of the push pins.Maybe they will give you a new W/S. |

Yea sounds like you never had the recall done. I had one fly off at 130mph, they just replaced it under warranty no questions asked, no threats to government agencies. |

Damn! I'm suddenly glad I installed the tall screen that came with the bolts in the lower mount holes. |

wasn't all the XT models already have the fixed bolts on the windshield? I didn't think you could purchase them with the push-pins anymore. |

Well what happens is the metal insert tears out of the rubber grommet from the stresses of tightening the shield. Get enough wind force and they pull right out. There has been a recall for months now on it. I never got the letter just went in and they did the recall because one of mine had spun out. Now I need to come up with a way to allow the shield to be removed without taking the flyscreen off. Shouldn't be too hard. |

I have had a ZG screen on for almost 30,000 miles, still mounted using the original rubber grommets, and have never had a problem at any speed. Then again, I'm on my 4th rear rocker seal, 3rd fan, 3rd set of rear wheel bearings, and am having skip spark running issues. |
