I have demo'd the Uly the last 4 years and cannot get past the heat issues. Is the lightning xbss(?) the same in reference to the heat it puts on the rider? Thanks

Yes, pretty much. I helped run a demo event in August a couple of years ago. They were all hot on the right leg and seat. What did you wear for pants. Jeans will always be a leg cooker. It is even hotter with shorts.

I had a 2005 City-X before my Uly it was hot also. I cured that by using a pair of double mesh Alpine Star riding pants. It makes a huge difference.

I think the Uly may be a little worse than other XBs as far as the heat that comes up through the seat, but they're all hot. There are plenty of threads here on heat-related mods.

You can improve the right side frame heat issue significantly by applying Thermotec (adhesive backed, foil faced insulation) to the inside of the frame rail. The other major source of heat to the rider is the hot air off the engine. About 50% of that can be fixed by closing off the opening above the rear cylinder head on the right side of the frame using Thermotec or similar. Alternatively, a couple of guys have put a piece of weatherstripping on the bottom of the seat in this area to prevent the hot air from "leaking" out. Either of those will keep the hot air off your inner right thigh. Special Ops (Badwebber Odie) makes heat insulating blankets to go under the seat which will help keep the seat cooler.

Who knows, maybe something new is coming out next month that will address the issue?

I completely overlooked the heat issue when I bought my bike and it is a bear in the summer months. However, this winter I might find a way to make it hotter or redirect the air into my jacket.

Odie's blankets work for me. Sometimes I also need to just stick my right knee out in the air and that cools off the thigh.
